- To hold TAE40122, TAE40116, or TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or its successor, or
- A diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education, vocational education and training, or
- A secondary teaching qualification and one of the following credentials:
- TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set
- TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set or its successor
- TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set or its successor
- Tertiary qualifications and recent industry experience at least to the level being assessed, in Agriculture, Horticulture, Conservation, Land and Ecosystem Management. Original certified copies of qualifications must be supplied. Purpose of the Position The Lecturer Primary Industries / Conservation and Ecosystem Management is responsible for the delivery of quality Vocational Education and Training (VET) within the context of Batchelor Institute's role as Australia's leading First Nations Tertiary Education and Research provider. The Lecturer Primary Industries / Conservation and Ecosystem Management is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative VET programs underpinned by the Batchelor Institute Both-ways principles of practice within the areas of Agriculture, Horticulture, Conservation, Land and Ecosystem Management. Duties
- Demonstrate awareness of VET educational theories; determine applicability of theories to the learning needs of individuals and groups and contribute to development of resources and programs based on the Batchelor Institute Learning and Teaching Framework which generates authentic learning experiences, and to the design of versatile learning strategies.
- Use strategies and skills to ensure learner engagement and achievement of learning outcomes; create supportive learner inter-relationships; use a range of technologies effectively.
- Demonstrate understanding of the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence and contribute to the development of assessment tools, or modify existing ones, to suit learner needs and specified context.
- Employ a range of methods to ensure principles of assessment and rules of evidence are met in assessment processes and decisions, as well as participate in validation processes.
- Liaise with enterprises and community to ensure teaching and assessment reflects current industry practices and community values and aspirations. In addition, participate in enterprise and community networks to enhance own knowledge and skills.
- Maintain vocational competency relevant to own subject area; keep up to date with industry changes; participate in relevant industry and community events/networks/consultation.
- Contextualise program content and adapt teaching practices to suit specified enterprise needs and community values and aspirations. Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian families, communities, and organisations.
- Must possess relevant vocational qualifications in the specialist teaching area, at least to the level of program being delivered, with a Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or Agriculture or Horticulture preferred. This should be combined with 3 or more years industry/professional/vocational experience. Additionally, the successful candidate must have the minimum vocational teaching qualification Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116 or TAE40122 or higher or be willing to obtain the qualification within a negotiated timeframe.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in Vocational Education and Training, including managing student progression that will enable VET programs in the relevant teaching areas to be researched, prepared, delivered, assessed, evaluated, and administered in a variety of contexts, including remote contexts and workplace delivery, with reference to the above domains of work requirements.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to comply with, VET management and administration policies, procedures and business rules, together with a sound understanding of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2025, relevant VET legislation and regulatory requirements, and the ability to ensure compliance within own work practices.
- Must be able to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory by land, sea and air (e.g. in light aircraft), possess a Northern Territory 'C' class drivers' licence with experience driving on unformed roads, and be prepared to stay in a range of accommodation and in various environmental settings available to Batchelor Institute staff.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
- Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
