Lead Mechanical Design Engineer (SolidWorks) Basic Trailers – Pooraka, Adelaide SA – Mechanical Engineering (Engineering) – Full time About Basic Trailers We’re a proudly Australian‑owned trailer manufacturer building high‑quality products right here in Adelaide. We operate in a practical, fast‑moving manufacturing environment where ideas become real products and improvements quickly make their way onto the workshop floor. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for someone to help drive the next stage of product development and manufacturing improvement across the business. About the Role This is a senior hands‑on role with responsibility for owning design outcomes from concept through to production. You’ll work across custom trailer projects, new product development and continuous improvement initiatives while working closely with the workshop team to create practical, buildable solutions. This role combines design ownership, product improvement and real‑world manufacturing outcomes. Key Responsibilities
- Design custom trailers based on customer requirements
- Develop new trailer models, systems and components
- Improve existing products to reduce build time and complexity
- Design jigs, tooling and workshop improvements
- Produce manufacturing‑ready SolidWorks models and drawings
- Create BOMs and manufacturing documentation
- Work directly with workshop staff to identify and solve production issues
- Liaise with suppliers regarding technical requirements and components
- Validate designs against real fabrication constraints
- Own projects from concept through to production release
- Contribute to ongoing product and process improvements What We're Looking For
- Advanced SolidWorks experience (assemblies, weldments, sheet metal and drawings)
- Demonstrated experience independently delivering design outcomes from concept through to production
- Strong understanding of fabrication and manufacturing environments
- Understanding of cutting, folding, welding and assembly processes
- Solid problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes
