- Full Time, Term Contract As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 6 or 12‑month allocation as Advanced Trainee/Fellow Paediatric Nephrology will be determined in line with your training and SA Health's requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities. About the role The Nephrology Advanced Trainee/Registrar provides inpatient and outpatient care for children and young people with kidney disease and hypertension across South Australia and surrounding regions. Working under Consultant supervision, the role supports complex renal care including dialysis, transplantation and chronic kidney disease management within a multidisciplinary team. The position also contributes to RACP advanced training, research and departmental teaching activities. Key duties of the role
- Provide supervised inpatient and outpatient care for paediatric patients with renal disease, hypertension and kidney‑related conditions.
- Support the management of dialysis patients (haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) and paediatric renal transplant patients.
- Participate in renal procedures and investigations including ultrasound‑guided biopsies, urine analysis and ambulatory blood pressure interpretation.
- Coordinate follow‑up care and maintain accurate, high‑quality clinical documentation.
- Contribute to teaching, research, clinical audit and continuous quality improvement activities within the Nephrology Unit. Skills and Experience
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and eligibility for general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completion of RACP Basic Training and progressing to Advanced Training in Paediatric Nephrology.
- Sound clinical skills in paediatrics appropriate to level of training.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills in multidisciplinary environments.
