About the RoleAre you a qualified cook who loves giving back to the community? We are seeking a reliable, community-minded Cook to join the Council.
In this role, you will be working in a clean, well-maintained, and fully equipped council community centre kitchen. Your main focus will be preparing and serving simple, comforting, home-cooked style meals (think roasts, grills, stews, soups, and baked goods) for our wonderful clients. There's nothing fancy or overly complex here—just valuable, wholesome food made with care.
You will be part of a supportive team setting, collaborating closely with fellow staff members and volunteers.
Hours: Daytime shifts (approx. 4–5 hours per day), 4 days per week
Schedule: Usually 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, most weekdays. No weekends!
Key ResponsibilitiesMeal Preparation: Cook straightforward, hearty dishes like roasts, stews, soups, sauces, vegetables, and baked goods.
Kitchen Management: Organise daily kitchen duties for yourself, staff, and volunteers.
Stock Control: Assist with purchasing groceries/stock from local shops and ensuring everything is stored correctly in fridges and shelves.
Service: Serve meals at the bench to our clients with a friendly smile.
Cleanliness: Maintain high hygiene standards by cleaning dishes, pots, pans, and wiping down benches.
What We Are Looking ForQualifications: Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
Team Player: You enjoy working in a collaborative team environment and can pleasantly guide kitchen volunteers.
Safety Conscious: Awareness of kitchen safety, specifically preventing slips, trips, and falls.
