- Full-time, Permanent THE ROLE: We are seeking an experienced Chef who is passionate about creating high-quality plant-based cuisine in a fast-paced café and restaurant environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing food preparation and cooking operations while ensuring consistency, presentation and efficiency across all service periods. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Lead and motivate the kitchen team to consistently deliver high-quality vegan and plant-based cuisine in a fast-paced café environment.
- Demonstrate and guide kitchen staff in plant-based cooking techniques, ingredient preparation, flavour balancing and presentation standards.
- Oversee and actively participate in the preparation and cooking of fresh vegan dishes for both dine-in and takeaway services.
- Assist the management team in developing creative and seasonal plant-based menus while calculating food quantities and associated costs.
- Manage ordering, costing, and kitchen inventory, ensuring the consistent supply and quality of fresh produce and plant-based ingredients.
- Ensure correct storage, preservation and stock rotation of fresh ingredients in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards.
- Monitor food quality throughout preparation, cooking and presentation to maintain consistency, portion control and exceptional presentation standards.
- Assist in the hiring, onboarding, rostering and training of new kitchen staff, alongside the estimating labour costs and maintaining efficient kitchen operations.
- Adhere to OH&S; and Food Safety regulations. This role demands leadership, organisational excellence and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining a passion for delivering innovative and exceptional vegan cuisine. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Relevant qualification, such as a Diploma of Hospitality Management
- Commercial Cookery (or agreed equivalent).
- Minimum of 1 year (preferably more) experience as a Chef in a busy café or restaurant, ideally specialising in vegan or plant-based cuisine.
- Experience in managing a team in a fast-paced environment, whilst maintaining high standards and morale.
- Strong understanding of plant-based ingredients, flavour combinations and contemporary vegan cooking techniques is essential.
- Understanding of food costing, portion control, stock management and efficient kitchen operations.
- Knowledge of OH&S; and Food Safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A great work ethic and a drive for delivering exceptional plant-based dining experiences.
- Flexibility to work early weekday shifts Monday to Thursday and a range of daytime and evening shifts on Fridays.
