- COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION Divisional Manager – Commercial Construction Build the Division. Shape the Future. Lead the Growth. A rare Adelaide opportunity exists for a highly experienced commercial construction leader to build a new commercial construction division within a well-established and fast-growing South Australian construction business. Our client has achieved strong sustainable growth over the past decade, with a proven capability across civil and related construction operations. The next stage of planned growth is the creation of a dedicated general commercial construction division. This outstanding privately held business combines solid systems, proven resources and genuine delivery credibility with a down-to-earth, high-trust culture that is not weighed down by unnecessary bureaucracy. This is not a business maintenance role. It is a true build-and-lead opportunity. The successful person will establish the division from the ground up. They will win and deliver commercial construction work by building trusted client and stakeholder relationships. They will shape the systems, processes and team structure required to create a sustainable and profitable business unit. This role would suit a proven commercial construction professional with experience across infrastructure-related building works, utilities, defence, government, industrial or private commercial construction. Familiarity with clients and contractors such as SA Water, SAPN, defence contractors or major asset owners would be well regarded. To be successful in this role, you must:
- Have significant experience in commercial construction, ideally with high exposure to one or more of the following categories; industrial, defence, government, utilities, public infrastructure, commercial building or asset-related construction environments.
- Bring a strong understanding and great network to identify, tender, secure, mobilise and deliver profitable commercial construction projects.
- Be commercially astute, with the ability to assess opportunities, price risk, manage margins, control costs and make sound decisions that support sustainable divisional growth.
- Have the confidence and credibility to engage with senior clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, government stakeholders, utility providers and internal leadership teams.
- Be capable of building a business division from the ground up, including developing systems, processes, team structures, delivery models, reporting disciplines and best in class commercial controls.
- Understand contract administration, project governance, quality assurance, safety, risk management and compliance requirements within the Australian construction environment.
- Have the leadership capability to build, manage and develop a high-performing team, leveraging technology as the division grows.
- Be proactive, self-directed and outcome-focused, with the energy and resilience required to establish something new rather than simply manage an existing operation.
- Be comfortable leveraging the resources, capability and relationships of an established business while also creating a distinct commercial construction offering.
- Bring strong industry networks or the ability to quickly develop meaningful relationships that lead to project opportunities and long-term client partnerships.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, with the ability to present opportunities, risks, recommendations and performance updates to business owners and senior decision-makers.
- Have a practical, hands-on leadership style and the willingness to remain close to the detail while building the division's strategic direction.
- Have the required commercial construction licensing. You will be provided with:
