Description
About the Role We are expanding our accounting division and looking for a senior or supervisor-level accountant who is ready to step into a high-ownership role. This is not just a compliance seat, it is a leadership position within the pod structure. You will own a portfolio of SME clients, resolve complex tax issues, and play a genuine mentoring role for the junior and intermediate accountants you work alongside. You will come from a mid‑tier, top‑tier, or strong boutique public practice firm, and be comfortable operating in a fast‑moving, tech‑enabled environment where you can help shape how things are done, not just follow established processes. Key Responsibilities While no two days will be the same, your core responsibilities will include: Client Ownership
- Take full ownership of a portfolio of SME client relationships across a range of structures including companies, trusts, and individuals.
- Prepare and review complex income tax returns and financial accounts to a high standard.
- Manage tax compliance obligations and ensure all lodgements are completed on time. Technical Tax Work
- Handle BAS, IAS, FBT returns, CGT calculations, and depreciation adjustments.
- Identify and resolve complex tax issues, including Div 7A, entity structuring, and other advisory matters.
- Serve as the team's go‑to technical resource for escalated issues.
- Review and provide structured feedback on work completed by junior and intermediate accountants, including offshore outsourced team members.
- Coach and develop team members to lift overall quality and consistency across the team.
- Help set standards, improve processes, and contribute to training initiatives across the accounting team. About You Experience & Background
- 5–7+ years of experience in public practice accounting, with a strong focus on business services and tax.
- Solid Australian direct tax experience across both compliance and advisory work.
- CA or CPA qualified, or very close to completion.
- Has previously managed their own client portfolio within a firm.
- Comfortable reviewing and signing off on work completed by juniors and intermediates.
- Coming from a mid‑tier, top‑tier, or strong boutique public practice firm. Skills & Approach
- Strong communication skills and a genuine enjoyment of building long‑term client relationships.
- Technically sharp with effective problem‑solving ability across complex tax scenarios.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero and MYOB is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in FYI Docs is preferred but not essential.
- Thrives in a collaborative, tech‑enabled, and rapid‑growing environment.
- Enjoys mentoring and lifting the capability of those around them, not just delivering their own work. Beyond the Base Salary
- Equity in Lawpath through our Employee Share Option Plan
- Hybrid and flexible working options
- An extra day of Birthday Leave
- Opportunities for career growth
- A generous parental leave policy
- A learning stipend for ongoing development
- Wellbeing perks including gym discounts, run club and wellness initiatives
- A transparent and fun culture with regular celebrations and team events Lawpath celebrates diverse perspectives and experiences, we invite people of all backgrounds and identities to apply for this position. You need to have full legal working rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position. #J-18808-Ljbffr Apply on Kit Job: kitjobau.com/job/3rwmb9
