Job Summary Full‐time, fixed‐term position for up to 12 months. Base salary in the range $83k
- $111k + 17% super (Academic Level A). The Veterinary Anaesthesia Intern is a specialised academic role within UQ VETS, embedded across the Small Animal, Equine and Production Animal Services at Gatton. Working in a highly cooperative, clinically rich teaching hospital environment, this role offers immersive, hands‐on experience in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia while contributing to undergraduate clinical teaching and scholarly activity. Key responsibilities Under guidance and supervision, contribute to the anaesthetic and analgesic management of primary, emergency and referral cases across all species presenting to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, including participation in after‐hours, weekend and public holiday rosters. Assist with the emergency and critical care management of small animal patients requiring anaesthesia or intensive monitoring. Support the effective day‐to‐day operation of the hospital through accurate clinical record keeping and adherence to established procedures and standards of care. Contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduate Veterinary Science and Veterinary Technology students in clinical and pre‐clinical settings, actively participating in clinical rounds, journal clubs and training activities. Liaise professionally with clients, referring veterinarians and colleagues, fostering a respectful, collaborative and inclusive workplace culture. Participate in clinical research activities undertaken within the School, contributing to the advancement of veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia. Support scholarly outputs, including preparation of peer‐reviewed publications and presentations to professional or academic audiences. Qualifications and experience BVSc, DVM or equivalent qualification registrable in Queensland. Eligibility for registration with the Queensland Veterinary Surgeons Board. Strong interest in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia, with some prior clinical exposure or strong foundational clinical skills. Capacity to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team, including specialists, residents, technicians and students. Willingness and flexibility to participate in after‐hours, weekend and public holiday rosters as required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional, client‐focused approach. Interest in contributing to undergraduate teaching and clinical scholarship.
