This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2026. Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) is a large service provider working across metropolitan and country primary and secondary schools, providing instrumental instruction to students from Years 3 to 12. In addition to weekly small group instrumental lessons, students have opportunities to participate in enrichment music activities which combine them working collaboratively, across year levels and with students from other schools. IMSS is guided by our school plan as well as overarching Department policies and procedures. The Role The Business Support Officer provides operational and administrative support to the Manager Corporate Services across a broad range of functions including workforce management, recruitment administration, financial processing, asset and inventory coordination, and administrative support services. A significant focus of this role involves supporting the management, tracking and coordination of IMSS’s extensive collection of musical instruments, sheet music, library resources and specialist music equipment located across Western Australia. The successful applicant will ideally contribute to the effective administration and stewardship of a large and complex inventory of instruments and music resources that support teaching and learning programs throughout the State. This may include assisting with asset tracking, library and resource management processes, procurement coordination, stock control, instrument allocation, maintenance scheduling, record management and logistical support associated with the movement of instruments and music resources between schools and regions. The successful applicant will ideally display flexibility, adaptability and an open-minded approach to supporting a wide variety of operational and administrative functions within a dynamic statewide organisation. The position works closely with the Manager Corporate Services both independently and as part of a collaborative Corporate Services team. The successful applicant should display initiative, sound judgement and the ability to work effectively under pressure in an evolving environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. As part of a small and highly collaborative team, the Business Support Officer would also contribute to building positive workplace culture by actively supporting and guiding members of the Allied Professional team where required. We are seeking applicants who ideally display:
- Highly developed organisational and administrative skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience in workforce administration, financial processing, asset coordination or administrative support services.
- The ability to maintain accurate records and process information with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive and professional relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Adaptability, initiative and flexibility in responding to operational requirements and changing priorities.
- The capacity to interact with empathy, professionalism and discretion when supporting staff, schools and community stakeholders.
- Experience or confidence working with large-scale inventory, library or resource management systems will be highly regarded.
- An understanding of public sector administrative practices, procurement processes and financial procedures is desirable. Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated considerable experience providing input and effective support to the development, management, implementation and monitoring of business operations, systems and plans.
- Demonstrated well developed financial management skills, including data analysis, interpretation and reporting, and the ability to provide recommendations.
- Demonstrated sound human resource management knowledge and skills, including the ability to provide effective support and input into the development, implementation and monitoring of human resource management systems and processes.
- Demonstrated sound verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated sound conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to identify appropriate solutions.
