Reporting to the Farm Manager, the purpose of this role is to be a key player in keeping our pigs healthy, happy and well cared for.

**Purpose of role**

The Farm Deparment Manager (Breeding) is responsible for leading and optimizing the piggery’s breeding program to achieve high reproductive performance and animal welfare standards. This role involves overseeing daily breeding operations, managing and developing breeding staff, and ensuring strict adherence to breeding protocols.

The Farm Department Manager (Breeding) utilises data-driven insights and innovative practices to continuously improve breeding outcomes, aligning operations with the piggery's production goals. Through effective leadership, the Farm Department Manager (Breeding) fosters a positive and efficient work environment, maintains the health and productivity of breeding animals, and ensures all facilities and equipment meet quality and safety standards.

**About the Role**

This opportunity is responsible for the below:

- Welfare and Biosecurity

Enforce SunPork’s animal welfare and biosecurity protocols across all piggery operations, conducting regular audits and ensuring all staff strictly adhere to these standards to maintain a safe and healthy environment for animals and personnel. This includes monitor Animal welfare and feed quality checks through regular walk-through checks in consultation with the Unit Supervisor.
- Operational Oversight and Coordination

Oversee and ensure efficient daily operations, including breeding, feed quality checks, and scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance in collaboration with the Infrastructure Manager and staff, maintaining compliance with all company policies.
- Breeding Program Management

Manage breeding activities and ensure accurate adherence to protocols, analysing data to set targets, improve outcomes, and drive performance. Maintain accurate breeding records and report performance to the Farm Manager.
- Leadership and Team Development

Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to staff, conducting performance reviews and fostering a positive, goal-oriented work environment. Lead regular team meetings to address schedules, performance, and any operational challenges.
- Inventory and Supplies Management

Coordinate monthly stock takes, maintain site consumables, and ensure timely ordering of necessary supplies.
- Communication and Collaboration

Act as the primary point of contact for unit network communication, collaborate across departments for performance and maintenance needs, and escalate personnel and operational matters as needed.
- Emergency and Supervisory Support

Perform PA1
- Supervisor duties as required under exceptional circumstances to ensure seamless operations.

**Job Dimensions**

Bacchus Marsh, Balliang, VIC

Monday to Friday
- full time 38 hours a week

Base salary range: $76,550
- $85,000 + Superannuation

**About You**
- Cert III in Pork Production or equivalent or higher, plus 3 years industry experience in a medium/large piggery or 5 years industry experience in a medium/large piggery,
- A current driver's licence
- Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Effective leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- High level of verbal communication, leadership and interpersonal skills,
- Sound level of computer knowledge and skills
- Ability to analyse problems and initiate and implement solutions and resolve workplace conflicts
