- Ballarat Reference: VG/SRO/COM/1923912 Two (2) Graduate Investigator, Grade 2 positions are available in the Investigations Branch Ballarat, Compliance Division, Ballarat About the State Revenue Office The State Revenue Office (SRO) is proud to be a part of the Victorian Public Service Graduate program for the fourth year running. The SRO is the Victorian Government's revenue management agency, administering a range of taxes, duties, levies, grants and subsidies. The prospect The SRO is partnering with the VPS Graduate program, so you'll experience the same benefits, learning and development and networking as your fellow graduates. In Ballarat, you'll receive a bespoke experience designed specifically for graduates who want to start or continue their careers in Ballarat. The SRO is one of Ballarat's most well‑known employers and staff work from the state‑of‑the‑art GovHub building Ballarat CBD. Graduates start in February 2027 and will:
- have diverse roles
- work in different departments in the SRO over 12 months

- learn and grow with mentors and peer networks
- be guaranteed a job at the end of the program
- be located in Ballarat CBD Roles and rotations Graduates will rotate internally; a typical journey may include:
- Starting in a customer support area, supporting land tax clients by taking phone calls, responding to emails and webchat queries, and processing customer details and amendments.
- Finishing in the Investigations branch, which conducts activities to maximize compliance with Victoria's revenue laws and ensure revenue is collected on time. As a Graduate Investigator, you will:
- Conduct desktop investigations and audits into land tax, using audit and investigative skills.
- Calculate customers' land tax liabilities and explain the reasons for the decisions made as part of an investigation/audit.
- Produce accurate reports on investigation/audit findings. Qualifications and eligibility
- Completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree (or level 7 or above of the Australian Qualifications Framework) between 1 January 2024 and 1 January 2027.
- Australian or New Zealand citizen, or Australian permanent resident (note: an active application for permanent residency does not meet the eligibility requirement).
- Not on a temporary graduate visa.
- Available for full‑time employment from the program start date of February 2027.
- Consent to a police check.
- Able to attend an interview as part of the application.
- Not have taken a voluntary redundancy from the Victorian public sector in the three years up to the program commencing February 2027. What’s in it for you
