Accountant / Bookkeeper & Commercial Property Administrator Northside Brisbane QLD Part-time / Casual, with potential to grow Bookkeeping & Small Practice Accounting About the business A privately owned Brisbane-based business is seeking an experienced Accountant / Bookkeeper & Commercial Property Administrator to support its day-to-day accounting, payroll, reporting and property administration requirements. The business operates across commercial equipment hire, project-based works, asset management and commercial property ownership. This is a varied role suited to someone who is commercially capable, highly organised and confident managing more than basic transactional bookkeeping. The role would suit an experienced bookkeeper, assistant accountant, company accountant or small business accountant who is confident working directly with business owners and management. About the role This position is responsible for the day-to-day accounting, bookkeeping and financial administration of the business. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain accurate financial records, manage payroll, process accounts payable and receivable, assist with reporting, liaise with the external accountant, and administer lease-related invoicing and commercial property records. This role requires someone who can step into a busy business environment, quickly understand existing systems and processes, identify areas requiring improvement, and bring structure, accuracy and discipline to the accounts function. You will work closely with the business owner and management team. Key responsibilities Bookkeeping and accounts
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in Xero.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Process supplier invoices, payments and supplier statement reconciliations.
- Prepare and issue customer invoices.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and loan accounts.
- Monitor aged receivables and assist with debtor follow-up.
- Maintain supplier, customer and employee records.
- Asset financing administration as required.
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and financial reporting.
- Support preparation of BAS, IAS and other compliance reporting.
- Liaise with the company accountant regarding tax, reporting, payroll and compliance matters.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure accounting tasks are completed in a timely manner. Payroll, wages and compliance
- Process employee wages.
- Manage PAYG, superannuation and payroll-related obligations.
- Maintain payroll records and employee payment information.
- Assist with onboarding records and staff file administration where required.
- Ensure payroll information is accurate, compliant and processed on time. Commercial property administration A key part of this role will involve financial administration for company-owned or related commercial properties. Responsibilities will include
- Preparing and issuing rental invoices to tenants.
- Managing lease-related invoicing and payment records.
- Calculating annual rent increases, including CPI or fixed percentage increases.
- Assisting with lease renewals, option periods and key lease dates.
- Calculating and invoicing outgoings where applicable.
- Maintaining records of lease agreements, rental schedules and property-related obligations.
- Liaising with tenants, property managers, insurers, accountants and other external parties as required.
- Assisting with property-related reporting and administration. Reporting and systems
- Prepare monthly financial reports for management review.
- Assist with project and job profitability reporting.
- Identify unusual costs, anomalies or financial issues requiring management attention.
- Help improve accounting procedures, workflows and internal controls.
- Maintain and improve financial systems and processes.
- Provide practical financial information to support management decision-making. What we are looking for The successful applicant must have strong bookkeeping and accounting experience, with the ability to operate independently and take ownership of the role. Essential requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ bookkeeping, accounting or assistant accountant experience.
- Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or Accounting, or higher accounting qualification.
- Solid working knowledge of Xero.
- Ability to administer Xero confidently, including payroll and system settings.
- Experience processing wages, PAYG and superannuation.
- Strong bank, credit card and account reconciliation skills.
- Experience with accounts payable and receivable.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Robust communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to work directly with business owners and senior management.
- Ability to identify problems, clean up records and improve systems. Highly regarded
- Prior experience as an accountant, assistant accountant or company accountant.
- Experience working in a small to medium privately owned business.
- Experience with commercial property administration.
