Operations Manager — Electrical & Panel Manufacturing Heavy Duty Controls & Electrical | Yatala QLD | Full-time | $110,000 – $125,000 + Quarterly Performance Bonus + Company Vehicle About HDC Heavy Duty Controls & Electrical is an electrical contracting and custom manufacturing business based in Yatala, specialising in control panels and electrical harness fabrication. We supply work that matters — built to spec, on time, and done right the first time. We are a growing business and we are looking for the right person to own our operations. This is a hands-on leadership role with direct access to the business owners and genuine scope to shape how the business runs. HDC operates a full ERP/MRP platform with completed bills of materials, structured warehousing, WHS and quality systems, and clean financial reporting. The infrastructure is in place — what we're looking for is the right person to drive it. The Role Reporting directly to the owners, you will have full accountability for day-to-day operations — safety, quality, delivery, cost, and the people responsible for delivering all four. This is not a coordination role. You will set the standard, hold it, and build a culture where it is expected. Safety. You lead safety, not administer it. You run toolbox talks, investigate incidents, close hazards, and build an setting where the right behaviour is the default — not the exception. Quality and delivery. First-time right is the target. You own defect rates, rework, and on-time delivery. Jobs leave when they were promised. Gross margin. You understand cost of goods at the job level — parts and labour. You identify where margin is lost and act on it. People. Hiring, onboarding, performance management, and development sit with you. You are expected to raise standards, not maintain them. Business development is not a primary focus, but you will contribute where relevant. The Hours Monday to Thursday, 6:00am – 2:30pm. Friday, 6:00am – 12:30pm. A genuine 38-hour week with your weekend starting at 12:30pm on Friday. No answering calls out of hours. What We Are Looking For You have led operations or production in a trades, manufacturing, or electrical environment. You are comfortable making decisions without a policy manual and you do not need to be managed. You hold safety as a personal standard, not a compliance obligation. A current Queensland Electrical Contractor's Licence is highly regarded. Candidates who hold an ECL will be considered at the upper end of the salary range. You do not need to come from the electrical industry, but you must understand what it means to build physical product to a standard and get it out the door on time. HDC's workshop produces custom-engineered control panels, industrial switchboards, and electrical harness assemblies — built to customer specification and shipped to industrial clients across Australia. This is not off-the-shelf product. Everything that leaves the floor has been designed, wired, tested, and signed off in-house. The Package
- Base salary: $110,000 – $125,000 (negotiable for current ECL holders)
- Quarterly performance bonus: up to 10% of base, paid against gross margin, on-time delivery, and safety outcomes
- Company vehicle for business use, with fuel card
