Circuit and Construction Manager (Gold Coast)

Circuit and Construction Manager (Gold Coast)
Description
iEDM is a multi-disciplinary engineering, advisory and project delivery practice. We deliver complex, high-profile projects for governments and major organisations across Australia — specialising in sports, major events, entertainment, and the urban infrastructure that supports them. Our team consists of engineers, project managers, designers, construction managers, quantity surveyors, safety professionals and site personnel. iEDM people are technically excellent, adaptable, creative and resilient — and we share a passion to deliver exceptional outcomes for every experience. Our Supercars program includes the Gold Coast 500, Townsville 500, and Bathurst 1000, delivered under a long‐term agreement with V8 Supercars Australia. At the GC500, iEDM is the appointed Principal Contractor, responsible for the full infrastructure overlay of the Surfers Paradise street circuit precinct. Role Overview The Circuit and Construction Manager is a senior operational leadership role — the person on the ground who owns the safe, on‐programme delivery of the GC500 street circuit and infrastructure overlay. You carry dual accountability: management of the physical racing circuit (barriers, surfaces, furniture, overtrack elements) and end‐to‐end leadership of the broader construction program across all infrastructure overlay packages. You report to the Project Director and Lead Project Manager, and lead a team of Project Safety Managers, Site Managers. This is a hands‐on role. You will be on site during all critical phases — not managing from a desk. Decision speed, contractor relationships, and WHS leadership are the core measures of success. Key Responsibilities The circuit management responsibility is the defining distinction of this role from a standard construction manager position. The Circuit and Construction Manager owns the physical circuit from track inspection through to race weekend handover to V8SA:
- Manage all track infrastructure contracts — barriers, debris fencing, chicanes, kerbing, asphalt, line marking, and overtrack elements.
- Serve as iEDM's primary contact with Motorsport Australia (MSA) for circuit inspections and track approval.
- Drive all remediation works required to achieve MSA track sign‐off.
- Manage circuit maintenance contractors via Race Control over the race weekend.
- Oversee engineering compliance across circuit infrastructure.
- Lead precinct handover, handback, remediation, and park restoration processes. Construction Program Management End‐to‐end leadership of the GC500 infrastructure overlay construction program, from pre‐mobilisation planning through to post‐event close‐out:
- Own the Construction Program and Dismantle Program, including contractor sequencing and occupation schedules.
- Maintain overall site responsibility during Construction and Deconstruction phases.
- Manage the GC500 Capital Works program on behalf of V8SA.
- Develop construction zone exclusion plans, road closure plans, and occupation schedules. WHS and Safety Leadership As the construction team leader, the Circuit and Construction Manager is accountable for safety performance across the entire GC500 build and dismantle. This includes:
- Accountable for safety performance across the full GC500 build and dismantle.
- Own the WHS Management Plan, Construction Management Plan, Construction Risk Management Plan, Traffic Management Plan, and Occupation Plans.
- Plan and implement project safety systems and procedures in partnership with the Project Safety Manager.
- Ensure contractor compliance and conduct periodic site safety audits.
- Oversee Safe Event risk management governance and ensure accurate use.
- Liaise with Work Safe and relevant statutory authorities as required. Traffic and Stakeholder Management The GC500 involves significant traffic management complexity across both construction and event phases:
- Plan, implement, and monitor traffic management (vehicle and pedestrian) across construction and event phases.
- Obtain required traffic control permits.
- Attend and contribute to Traffic and Transport Committee meetings.
- Manage interfaces with development sites and residents.
- Maintain relationships with the City of Gold Coast and other key stakeholders. Reporting and Administration Provide regular program updates to the Project Director and Lead Project Manager. Chair weekly works planning meetings with contractors. Oversee contract management for nominated infrastructure packages. Contribute to the iEDM annual Debrief Report. What You'll Bring
