Description
Brisbane | Defence, civic, government and commercial projects Are you a Registered Architect who enjoys solving complex project challenges, coordinating people and information, and seeing well resolved documentation become real built outcomes? DesignInc Brisbane is looking for a capable Registered Architect to join our studio and contribute to a strong pipeline of meaningful work across Defence, civic, government, commercial, education, health, industrial and community projects. This is a role for someone who wants more than a narrow documentation position.
You will have the opportunity to work on technically complex government and public sector projects, while also gaining variety across other sectors, clients, procurement models and project stages. DesignInc is an Australia wide architecture and design practice with a clear purpose: creating healthy buildings and people centred environments.
The practice describes design as a shared journey, involving clients and consultants in the creative process, and the Brisbane studio is committed to architecture that responds to its physical and social context, with a focus on long term value rather than short term gain. Why this role At DesignInc Brisbane, you will join a smaller local studio where your contribution is visible, valued and supported, while also being connected to a broader national design network. You will work closely with project leaders, consultants and clients on projects that require strong technical thinking, explicit communication and careful coordination.
Depending on your experience, you may contribute across design development, documentation, consultant coordination, authority coordination, tender and construction phase services. The immediate need is for someone who can support Defence related work, but the role is deliberately not Defence only.
We know good architects want variety, challenge and the chance to keep developing.
This role offers that balance. What you will be doing You will have the opportunity to:
- Work on complex government, civic, commercial and institutional projects.
- Develop and document design solutions with a focus on quality, coordination and buildability.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants and internal project teams.
- Prepare tender and construction documentation.
- Contribute to BIM coordination and project delivery through Revit.
- Attend meetings and support project communication.
- Undertake site inspections, reporting and construction phase support.
- Respond to RFIs and assist with contract administration under the guidance of senior project leaders.
- Take ownership of packages and grow your project design and delivery capability over time. About you You are likely to be a Registered Architect who enjoys the discipline of delivery as much as the ambition of design. You are comfortable working in structured project environments, particularly where coordination, accuracy and process matter.
You may already have experience across Defence, civic, education, government, commercial or institutional projects, or you may be looking to step further into this type of work. You will bring:
- Registration as an Architect in Australia.
- Technical documentation and detailing capability.
- Experience in project delivery, consultant coordination and construction phase support.
- A good understanding of construction methods, documentation standards, planning processes and building regulations.
- Strong written, verbal and graphic communication skills.
- The ability to work independently, while contributing positively to a team.
- Confidence interpreting consultant documentation and coordinating design information. Revit capability is preferred.
Experience in BIM workflows will be highly regarded.
We are also open to candidates who have strong Archicad experience and are willing to transition. Security requirements Due to the nature of Defence related work, applicants must be Australian citizens. Candidates will need to hold a current Baseline Security Clearance or be willing to obtain one.
DesignInc will support the successful candidate through the clearance application process. Why DesignInc Brisbane This is a studio where you can be known, supported and trusted. You will not be hidden inside a large team doing repetitive tasks.
You will be working alongside experienced project leaders, contributing to real project outcomes and building the skills required to become a more rounded architect. For the right person, this role offers a pathway toward greater project leadership responsibility over time. It would suit someone who wants: Meaningful project work.
- A balance of Defence and broader sector experience.
- A supportive local studio environment.
- The backing of a national architecture and design practice.
- Exposure to complex clients, consultants and delivery environments.
- The chance to keep developing as both a designer and a project architect. Apply If you are a Registered Architect who enjoys technically complex work, values collaboration and wants to grow in a studio where your contribution genuinely matters, we would love to hear from you.
