About Michael & Ruysch
Michael and Ruysch is not your typical design practice. With nine years in the industry and a fresh current chapter underway, we're a fully integrated architecture and interior design practice with serious energy and an even bigger vision for what comes next. Our three principals bring the best of both disciplines together — registered architect and interior design lead Cailin Mackey, and building designers Michael Ross and Haydn Ruysch — united by a shared obsession with design that's considered, ambitious, and built to last. We offer clients something rare: seamless architectural and interior design services under one roof, driven by a single creative vision from first sketch to final finish. From high-end residential to complex new builds, everything we produce carries our point of view. We're a close-knit, hands-on team. You'll work directly alongside the principals, have a real voice in what we create, and be part of a culture that values craft as much as momentum. We're also at a genuinely exciting moment. Without giving too much away, Michael and Ruysch is heading in a bold new direction — and we're building the team that's going to take us there. If you want to get in early, grow with a practice that has real momentum, and help shape what comes next, this is that opportunity. About the Role
We are looking for a talented and driven Interior Designer to join our studio and take a leading role across a diverse portfolio of residential projects. You will be responsible for guiding projects from initial concept through to completed documentation, working closely with our Director/Principal and collaborating with a small team of junior and mid-level designers whom you will mentor and inspire. This is a pivotal role for someone who brings strong creative vision, meticulous attention to detail, and the technical skills to back it up — particularly in Revit. You will work across high-end residential, multi-residential developments, new builds, and renovations, helping to deliver beautifully resolved interiors for our clients. Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership
- Lead interior design concept development across high-end residential, multi-residential, new build, and renovation projects
- Produce and oversee comprehensive design documentation sets from concept through to construction issue
- Maintain design excellence and consistency across all project touchpoints
- Manage project timelines and coordinate deliverables with the broader project team Technical & Documentation
- Develop detailed working drawings, specifications, schedules, and finish boards using Revit
- Prepare and present design concepts through high-quality visual communication — mood boards, 3D visuals, and presentation documents
- Coordinate with builders, trades, and consultants to resolve design details during construction
- Utilise Adobe Creative Suite and Programa to produce client-ready documentation and project administration Client Engagement
- Work alongside the Director/Principal in client presentations and design review meetings
- Communicate design intent clearly and confidently to clients, builders, and suppliers
- Contribute to a positive client experience through responsive, professional communication Team Mentorship & Culture
- Mentor, guide, and support a small team of junior and mid-level designers in day-to-day project work
- Review and provide constructive feedback on team members' drawings, concepts, and documentation
- Help build a culture of continuous learning, creative curiosity, and design rigour within the studio
- Contribute to the development of studio standards, templates, and workflows About You
We care more about the calibre of your work and the depth of your thinking than the number of years on your CV. If your portfolio speaks for itself, we want to hear from you.
- Tertiary qualification in Interior Design or Interior Architecture (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in residential interior design, with a strong portfolio across a range of project types
- Minimum 4-5 years of demonstrated residential interior design experience
- Proficiency in Revit — you can produce documentation to a high standard and champion its use within the studio
- Advanced proficiency in Revit with demonstrated ability to produce complex documentation
- Strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) for presentations and documentation
- Experience using Programa for project management and procurement
- Exceptional eye for detail in both design and documentation
- Confident communicator — able to engage with clients, builders, and consultants with clarity and professionalism
- A natural collaborator who enjoys sharing knowledge and supporting the growth of others
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadline What We Offer
- The opportunity to work on a premium portfolio of residential projects
- A collaborative, design-focused studio environment
- Genuine mentorship and a pathway for senior leadership
- Flexible working arrangements (details to be discussed)
- A team that values craft, creativity, and attention to detail as much as you do How to Apply
To apply, please submit your CV, portfolio, and a brief cover letter telling us about a project you are proud of and what you brought to it. Applications that include a portfolio will be prioritised. We look forward to hearing from you. Apply on Kit Job: kitjobau.com/job/3s52gk
