The position works within the Maintenance Team and will be responsible for assisting in the care of animals and maintenance of the agriculture area and assisting with general maintenance of the College.

Essential Criteria
- Previous experience in the care of farm animals.
- Previous experience in building and maintenance work.
- General understanding of current Work Health and Safety workplace requirements and an ability to

work within those requirements.
- The ability to work competently and independently with mínimal or no direct supervision.
- The ability to develop and sustain robust, appropriate relationships that support and enhance the

charism of the College.

Desirable Criteria
- Trade qualification in either animal care or a building trade.

- Salary and conditions will be as per the NSW Catholic Independent Schools (Support Staff
- Model B)

Farm and Maintenance Assistant Reports to The Property Manager

college policies, the requirements of their employment contract and carry out the duties and responsibilities stated in this role description

General The Farm and Maintenance Assistant:

- assists in the care and safe working environment of the agriculture area
- assists with general maintenance of the college
- completes all work under the direction of the Property Manager and/or other

delegated members of staff such as the agriculture teacher.

Duties and The duties and responsibilities of this role includes, but are not limited to, the following: responsibilities
- Interact with college staff, students, contractors and any member of the wider

community in a professional and respectful manner
- Follow all college safe operating procedures and manufacturer’s instructions,

including the use of appropriate PPE, when undertaking all tasks
- Undertake and complete all training as directed by the college
- Carry out all tasks efficiently, productively, and professionally
- Operate tractor, mowers, brush cutters etc., and control weeds and pests (utilising

domestic-like products and equipment) to maintain college grounds
- Carry out general maintenance and care of equipment/materials, such as checking

oil, fuel and tyres, cleaning/washing equipment, sharpening hand tools, and ensuring safe and appropriate storage
- Immediately report (and tag out) any identified or suspected mechanical,

maintenance or safety issues to the Property Manager
- Carry out stocktake of equipment and stores as directed
- Report any suspected damage/loss/theft to the Property Manager
- Log all completed repairs of farm machinery and equipment, as instructed
- Maintain hoses and irrigation systems, including the repair of leaks
- Check all fencing to ensure safe enclosures for the animals; where new fencing is

required, notify the Property Manager of the need and if requested, complete the fencing work as instructed/directed by the Property Manager
- Sweep and clean all shed floors, as required
- Store animal feed and agricultural seeds are stored in vermin proof, labelled

containers
- Notify the Agriculture Teacher when new supplies of feed are needed
- Feed animals as directed
- Farm and Maintenance Assistant- Ensure animal water troughs are maintained/clean, and animals have fresh water
- Clean paddocks, pens or cages as directed
- Secure farm animals and move animals around paddocks, when requested
- Immediately report any suspected injured or ill animals to the Agriculture Teacher

and/or the Property Manager
- Collect eggs, clean and store them for sale, as required
- Maintain composting process, as directed by the Agriculture Teacher
- Collect food scraps from the hospitality area of the school on a weekly basis for farm

use
- Maintain the presentation of the grassed areas, paths, areas around sheds and the

area associated as the agriculture paddocks and learning spaces, by: o Routine mowing and edge cutting of grassed areas
- Weeding as necessary
- Maintaining all walkways within the agriculture plot
- Keeping all drains clear and free of weeds
