The role Are you driven by uncovering facts, resolving complex issues, and helping keep Brisbane’s community safe? Brisbane City Council is seeking high calibre investigatory professionals to join our Animal Attack Team in Animal Services. If you have strong investigative skills, excel in gathering and analysing information, and are ready for a role where your decisions directly impact community safety, we want to hear from you. This role involves a balanced mix of field-based activity and office-based work, requiring you to independently manage your caseload, prioritise tasks, and apply investigative methods across a variety of environments. You’ll regularly encounter challenging and dynamic situations, including exposure to confronting scenes such as severe injuries to people and animals, so the ability to remain composed, think critically, and make sound, evidence-based decisions under pressure is essential. Success in this role relies on your ability to:
- demonstrate strong investigative capability, including interviewing, evidence collection, fact finding, and accurate report writing
- apply keen observation and analytical skills to identify issues, assess risk, and determine appropriate enforcement or intervention pathways
- communicate effectively with animal owners and members of the public, using professionalism and conflict-resolution skills to achieve positive outcomes
- capture accurate information—even in stressful or fast-changing circumstances—and ensure all actions comply with legislative and procedural requirements
- You’ll be part of a dedicated team committed to delivering high-quality services through enforcement and education, ensuring the best outcomes for the Brisbane community. Key focus areas include:
- delivering exceptional customer service when engaging with residents, witnesses, and animal owners, even in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations
- working within a flexible roster, including weekends and hours outside the standard workday, to ensure timely responses to animal-related incidents across Brisbane
- conducting thorough investigations into animal incidents, gathering evidence, interviewing involved parties, and making informed enforcement decisions in accordance with Council policies and procedures
- providing clear, accurate community education on the laws relating to the keeping and management of animals in Brisbane
- making, recording, and communicating sound administrative decisions, supported by evidence and aligned with legislative requirements to promote public safety
- producing high-quality written documentation, including reports, letters, case notes, and statutory notices that meet internal and legislative standards
- participating confidently in legal proceedings, including preparing briefs and giving evidence in forums such as the Magistrates Court and the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal
- contributing positively to a high-performing team, supporting colleagues and actively engaging in a culture focused on effective animal management and strong investigative outcomes.
