Senior Social Worker – Complex Mortality & Bereavement Support Officer (Permanent Part‑Time) Based at Logan Hospital, Meadowbrook, this role provides advanced Social Work services within the Clinical Governance Unit to support complex mortality, bereavement and patient safety processes across Metro South Health. Role
- Providing advanced Social Work assessment, intervention and support to patients, families and carers experiencing complex bereavement and mortality‑related matters.
- Supporting families and next of kin through coronial processes, funeral arrangements and sensitive deceased patient management matters.
- Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, external agencies and government stakeholders including the Coroners Court of Queensland, Queensland Police Service and Funeral Directors.
- Contributing to service development, quality improvement initiatives and evidence‑based clinical practice within Clinical Governance.
- Assisting with mortality review processes, compliance reporting, Ryan's Rule and Open Disclosure activities.
- Providing supervision, education and guidance to less experienced clinicians, students and Allied Health Assistants.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and helping drive the transition toward a more digitally enabled service. About You
- Demonstrated experience delivering high‑level Social Work services within a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of bereavement support, deceased patient management and complex family dynamics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise sensitively with families, clinicians and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and exercise sound clinical judgement with a high level of independence.
- Experience contributing to quality improvement, service development and evidence‑based practice initiatives.
- Proven capability to provide supervision, mentoring and support to clinicians and students.
- Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
