SAP ABAP Developer (S/4HANA HCM) (Brisbane City)

Senior SAP HCM Lead ABAP Developer Our government client is seeking a Senior SAP HCM Lead ABAP Developer to support a large and highly customised HCM and payroll environment currently transitioning from ECC6 to S/4HANA. The role focuses on modernising and optimising existing custom code, building clean-core aligned extensions, and supporting HCM initiatives spanning payroll compliance, award interpretation, data structure updates, and workflow improvements. You’ll work across ABAP, OData, integrations, reporting logic, and S/4HANA development while operating in a busy release-driven environment. Contract & Location
- Based in the Brisbane CBD with full-time onsite attendance.
- Initial contract through to 30 June 2026, with potential extensions.
- Paying up to $1,098.69 per day inclusive of superannuation. Responsibilities
- Analyse, modernise, and optimise existing ABAP code to prepare HCM components for S/4HANA conversion, including alignment to clean-core development principles.
- Develop current HCM extensions, reports, and validation logic to support payroll, compliance updates, enterprise agreement changes, and HR process improvements.
- Collaborate with Functional Experts to interpret requirements, refine business rules, and ensure solutions align with SAP best practice and legislative needs.
- Support development activities across initiatives such as digital timesheeting, leave and movement workflows, rostering interactions, and related API/integration work.
- Provide technical leadership across standards, code reviews, testing approaches, and optimisation activities during the S/4HANA upgrade.
- Contribute to release planning, background processing, and integrations within a large, data-intensive payroll and HR environment.
- Maintain high-quality technical documentation, specifications, and solution designs. The successful candidate has experience designing, developing, and optimising ABAP solutions within SAP HCM; supporting highly customised payroll environments; building S/4HANA-aligned extensions using clean-core principles; working with HR master data, payroll rules, and rostering integrations; and partnering with Functional Experts to deliver compliant, efficient, and scalable HCM solutions across complex environments.
