Blaklash is looking for a Senior Designer to join our Brisbane-based team. We are after an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander built environment designer with 2–3+ years of full-time industry experience who is passionate about shaping meaningful projects grounded in Country, culture, community. Every project at Blaklash is different, so we are looking for someone who is adaptable and enjoys creative problem solving, working closely with others across a range of disciplines, and contributing to a team where we all care so deeply about the work we do This role is for someone who enjoys working across a diverse range of projects and scales, from strategic thinking and community engagement through to spatial design, storytelling, documentation, and delivery support. About Blaklash Blaklash is a 100% First Nations owned and operated design studio, working across strategy and policy, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and public art, through to community engagement and co-design. Our work focuses on creating meaningful relationships between people, place and culture through a Country-centred approach. We work on projects across the continent alongside Traditional Custodians, First Nations communities, governments, organisations and design teams to help shape culturally responsive outcomes that create real impact. The Role
- Assisting in the development of design concepts, reports, presentations, and project documentation
- Supporting and participating in community engagement and co-design processes
- Collaborating with architects, landscape architects, artists, consultants, and community stakeholders
- Assisting project leads to resolve design challenges and contribute to project delivery
- Preparing visual communication materials and presentations
- Participating in workshops, meetings, and team-oriented design processes
- Supporting internal studio systems, workflows, and project coordination
- Contributing to a positive, thoughtful, and team-oriented studio culture
- Has 2–3+ years of full-time built environment industry experience
- Is passionate about working with and for First Nations communities
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative, creative environment
- Works well independently with a high level of self-direction and initiative
- Enjoys problem solving and adapting to different project types and challenges
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Is curious and motivated to continue learning and growing professionally Additional Experience (Beneficial but Not Essential)
- Community engagement or co-design experience
- Experience working with First Nations communities or organisations
- Public speaking, workshop facilitation, or presentation experience What We Offer
