We are seeking an experienced and driven Project Engineer – Mechanical to join our Utilities division, supporting the delivery of complex water infrastructure projects across Queensland. This role will see you lead the technical and commercial management of mechanical work packages, ensuring successful project delivery from procurement through to commissioning and handover. The ideal candidate will bring a strong Mechanical Engineering background, with proven experience delivering multi-discipline water infrastructure projects in a Project Engineer capacity. - Define and manage the mechanical scope of works, ensuring cost-effective construction methodologies aligned with the project schedule.
- Provide technical leadership and engineering solutions to support project delivery and identify value engineering opportunities.
- Track project finances, complete cost-to-complete forecasts, and manage budget performance to protect project margins.
- Identify contractual risks and opportunities, and prepare variations, claims, and subcontract agreements.
- Lead procurement activities for major mechanical equipment, including technical reviews and supplier evaluations.
- Interpret complex mechanical designs and act as the key technical point of contact for site teams and subcontractors.
- Develop and manage Quality Management Plans, including ITPs and ITCs, ensuring compliance with client and regulatory standards.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to resolve technical, commercial, and scheduling issues.
- Support planning activities by identifying and mitigating risks, including review of high-risk work methodologies.
- Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, incident investigations, and adherence to HSEQ requirements.
- Oversee testing, commissioning, and final handover of mechanical systems, including close-out of defects and documentation.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Site Engineers to ensure alignment with project objectives. Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or related) accredited by Engineers Australia or equivalent.
- 5+ years’ experience in the Construction Industry, with a focus on Utilities and Water Infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience as a Project Engineer in multi-discipline contracting environments.
- Robust background in commercial contract management, procurement, and project cost control.
- Proven ability to deliver work packages from procurement through to commissioning and handover.
