- Casual Covenant Christian School is a distinctly and explicitly Christian Prep to Year 12 co-educational day school with over 900 students, located in Belrose on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Working in partnership with parents, our passionate and highly qualified teaching staff deliver the curriculum from the understanding that all of life must be centred on God and his plan to restore all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our Sports Coaches are to show godly leadership to the children, expressing the outworking of their faith not only in the way they relate to students, but with all the interactions they have in their role, especially with staff and parents. Vision: To faithfully serve in God’s plan to restore all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Mission: To assist parents in the nurture of their children, by providing a Christ-centred, biblically grounded, culturally engaging and academically rigorous education to equip the children to live for God’s glory. Reporting to the Sports Academy Co-ordinator in the Co-Curricular department, the Sports Academy Assistant Coach will primarily liaise with faculty staff and the Coordinator, the Director of Co-Curricular (P-12), the Business Manager, Parents and Community. ROLE STATEMENT Covenant Christian School partners with parents in the education of their children by providing opportunities and programs after school which allow students to express their faith, gifts and abilities through sport. This is done in an encouraging, Christ-centred atmosphere where participation, sportsmanship, resilience and dedication are core values. Whilst offering students a variety of sport options for both Junior and Secondary students, Covenant’s Sports Academy ultimately desires students to glorify God. Our Assistant Coaches need to foster a love and enthusiasm for sport across the School as the school encourages student participation across all ability levels. These opportunities are focused around Athletics, Soccer, Basketball, Netball, Touch Football and OzTag and involve teaching students between the ages of 5 and 18 years. KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Committed Christian of a reformed evangelical persuasion actively involved in the life of their local church.
- Able and willing to sincerely affirm the School’s Statement of Belief
- Experience and/or coaching knowledge across a variety of sports
- Coaching qualifications desirable though not essential
- Experience coaching students between the ages of 5 to 18 years, with a particular emphasis on the ability to engage with young children with enthusiasm and energy
- Available after school 2.30pm – 4.30 pm, Monday – Thursday during term time
- Robust interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to liaise with staff across the school and with parents/carers.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with others
- Current Working with Children Check (Employee) if the age of 18 years or over. ROLE ACCOUNTABILITY Team Member As a member of a small team of Co-Curricular and Sports staff, Coaches are responsible:
- to ensure they work cohesively with others
- to be subject to relevant Coordinators in line with the organisational structure of the school Culture of Learning To develop a culture of faithful use of gifts in students, Coaches should:
- provide an effective climate for promoting sporting participation amongst students of all abilities
- promote collaborative relationships between teachers, students and parents General duties
- Assist in the Sports Academy program and direct participants
- Teach sport classes after school
- from time to time conduct other duties as may be required by the Sports Academy Coordinator, Director of Co-Curricular or Business Manager Student Wellbeing In working with children in and outside the classroom, Coaches need to:
- have a genuine care and interest in each pupil’s welfare
- ensure the playing areas are safe and kept tidy
- report any concerns regarding the wellbeing of students to the Director of Co-Curricular or Sports Academy Coordinator. Other Coaches need to inform the school if they no longer hold to the school’s Statement of Belief. WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY All staff have a responsibility to take reasonable care for their own safety and that of everyone else at school or involved in school activities. They must comply with reasonable safety instructions, policies and procedures, including by providing care to students within the scope of their role. Staff will also participate in school safety, such as by addressing hazards and reporting safety incidents. The school reserves the right to modify and adjust role descriptions to meet its operational and strategic needs. Assistant Coach – School Instructional Services, Level 1/Level 2 dependent on qualifications, experience and capacity to perform the role.
