Description
We're offering TWO pharmacists the opportunity to:
- Forget the cost of living crisis. Yes, head of lettuce up here is more expensive than in the city. But we cover your house, car, and all other expenses. So you can afford all the lettuce you want.
- Forget renting, landlords, rent inspections and sharing a flop house with 5 others. We offer free fully furnished accommodation. Not shared with anyone. All the shelves in the fridge will be yours. You won't run out of space for your lettuce.
- Experience a side of pharmacy that isn't sticking labels on boxes or apologising to patients who insist they can get their script for 3 cents cheaper at the big warehouse pharmacy down the road.
- Get away from the cold and wet. It's beach and holiday weather in the Kimberley.
- See a beautiful part of the world at no cost to you. We know you've been meaning to visit all the great places in Australia. But a cheap holiday to SE Asia wins every time. We get it. But now you can do both. The Kimberley is a major tourist destination. The 400,000 tourists we get annually are often wrong about where to park their caravans so as to not annoy the locals, but they're not wrong about this being a great place to visit.
- Get away from traffic and traffic lights (there are none in the Kimberley).
- Save hours of your life by cutting out the daily 2hr commute. Your commute will be 5min. You can still use the 1hr55min you save every day to listen to your audiobook or do your Sudoku but you'll be able to do it on your couch instead of doing it wedged into someone's armpit on a packed commuter train.
- And that 5min commute can be done in a work car we provide. If you prefer, you can bring your "urban" modes of transport with you, but you'll probably get little use out of your fixie, one-wheel or electric skateboard. Small print:
- There is one position available in Fitzroy Crossing and one in Halls Creek.
- Both positions are full-time Mon-Fri . No weekends, after hours or on-call.
- Start dates are negotiable but an immediate start is available.
- Attractive salary circa $135,000
- $145,000 (plus super) depending on which town you want to work in. Halls Creek is 300km more remote so pays a bit more.
- Whichever town you choose, you will have $70,000+ sitting in your bank account by this time next year. Your only expense will be food. Try Before You Buy Working in rural/remote is not for everyone. You might not like it, or you might not "get it". It's best for both sides if you "try-before-you-buy". Take some time off from your current work, come to the Kimberley and work for us as a locum (at locum rates). Then we can sit down and decide if we're a match. Aboriginal Health The roles are focussed on providing pharmacy services to our mostly Aboriginal patient base. You may have attended a 30min talk on delivering culturally appropriate care. You probably walked out thinking "yeh, but what does that actually mean?" Come and find out. It's something you can only learn by doing. No experience in Aboriginal Health is necessary. You do not need to be "passionate" about it. It's hard to be passionate about something you've never done. If you worked rural/remote before, and are passionate about it
- we want to hear from you. For everyone else, all we're looking for is a genuine interest in learning, and an acknowledgement (in your own mind) that a one-size-fits-all approach pharmacy is not the only way. A Multi-Disciplinary Approach To Pharmacy You will work in a variety of care settings including:
- Hospital, providing inpatient clinical services
- Aboriginal Health Services (town and remote clinics)
- Dialysis Units
- Aged care centres
- Community pharmacy The Fitzroy Crossing pharmacy is located inside the public hospital and the Halls Creek position is working inside an Aboriginal Medical Service. In the city you can work an entire pharmacy career and never set eyes on another clinician. Up here you will be constantly interacting with doctors, nurses, specialists, allied health, Aboriginal Health workers and many others. To succeed, you need to be a strong communicator and collaborator, so you can effectively build relationships with community members and other healthcare providers. What You’ll Enjoy In addition to an attractive salary ($135,000-$145,000 +super) , a range of benefits are also provided:
- Relocation allowance
- Work vehicles for work and personal use.
- Five weeks annual leave plus flexible time-in-lieu arrangements
- Fully-furnished accommodation (Internet and all utilities
- gas, water, electricity
- are covered). Accommodation is non-shared.
- Education and training allowance and support, including cultural safety training The exact salary will depend on which site you prefer (Halls Creek or Fitzroy Crossing) Additional Details 1. Small Towns. Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek are small towns. But yes, we do have supermarkets, sports facilities, gyms, pubs, etc. 2. Internet. We have it. And it's quick. 3. Remote but not isolated. Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek are very remote. But they are not isolated. You're on the main tourist highway. You have flights 3 times a week. if you need to, you can be in any capital city next day. Drive to Broome or Kununurra, fly to Perth, take the red-eye to east coast. Fitzroy Crossing is 4hrs drive from Broome. Halls Creek is 6hrs from Broome and 4hrs from Kununurra. All on a national highway. This is not African safari territory. 4. Team work. In Fitzroy Crossing you will be working with a second pharmacist. In Halls Creek you will be by yourself but you are not isolated. KPS is every well connected and all staff communicate constantly. You're not just left to your own devices. Help and support is available. 5. Safety. If you Google crime in Fitzroy Crossing or Halls Creek then it's a horror show. Both pharmacies are in secure buildings. Both staff houses are super secure. Should the worst happen, the police will be at your door in minutes. Crime is a non-issue if you use normal common sense. And let's be honest
- there's plenty of crime in the city. 6. Regular R&R;. We have an R&R; policy which allows you to regularly travel to Broome for a break from the remoteness. You get paid for the travel time. Typically you'd fly rather than drive. About You All it takes to succeed in these roles is to be a "good pharmacist". No specific skills or experience is required. Early career pharmacists are encouraged to apply. 30yrs of experience working as a pharmacist in an urban shopping centre pharmacy counts for little up here. This is a totally different side of pharmacy. If you have those 30yrs experience and want to try something else
- that's great too. You must have AHPRA General Registration. You need a bit of "resilience". Your will be living in the true outback. Roads flood, power gets cut, the Internet goes down, sometimes the food truck doesn't get through, restaurants sometimes don't have the full menu available, you can't just "call a guy" and expect them to show up the next day to fix something. You just have to roll with things. You can't be scared of dogs. Both Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek staff houses are patrolled by four-legged security guards (not for you to look after
- they are owned by someone else). About Kimberley Pharmacy Services Kimberley Pharmacy Services’ vision is to help rural, remote, and Indigenous people throughout the Kimberley to live longer and healthier lives by delivering consistent, innovative, and high-quality pharmacy services. We are a collaborative organisation that works closely with health care practitioners in clinics, hospitals, and health centres across the Kimberley.
