Firmware Engineer (Byron Bay)

We're looking for a Firmware Engineer to design, develop, test, and support embedded firmware and associated software tools that power Fliteboard's high-performance products. The Role Reporting to the CTO, you'll be responsible for the development, testing, and modification of firmware within embedded systems, along with supporting software interfaces used across apps, production tools, and test platforms. This is a hands‐on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, collaborating across disciplines, and seeing products move from concept through to real‐world deployment. You'll contribute to software architecture, feature development, hardware‐software integration, testing, and continuous improvement across our embedded technology stack. What You'll be Responsible for Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for Fliteboard products Create detailed high quality software designs, documentation, and verification activities Support hardware-software integration, debugging, and real-world product testing Develop and maintain supporting software tools, interfaces, and test systems Collaborate with firmware, electronics, app, and cloud teams through GitLab workflows and code reviews Contribute to engineering best practices, software quality, compatibility, and continuous improvement About You Bachelor degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Embedded Systems, or related discipline — or equivalent industry experience Honours or postgraduate qualifications in Embedded Systems or related fields (desirable) 5–10+ years experience in software development roles with relevant technical breadth and project outcomes Strong experience designing and implementing embedded software in C Experience with RF communications and embedded communication protocols Experience with unit testing and design-for-test methodologies Strong understanding of configuration management and software compatibility considerations Experience working within collaborative software development workflows and version control systems Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary product development environment It would be great if you also had experience with Nordic NRF528xx, Atmel ARM, and/or STM32 microcontrollers Flutter/Dart, Python, or C# development experience
