- $80,000 Job Type: Permanent position | Full time position The Space Cowboy Gallery is seeking a full-time Illustrator to assist with the creation of original canvas artwork, visual design concepts, and production-ready artwork for exhibitions, art fairs, limited edition prints, merchandise concepts, and gallery projects. The successful applicant will work closely with the Principal Artist and gallery team to develop bold, expressive, brand-aligned visual artwork across traditional and mixed media formats. The role involves creating original illustrations directly onto canvas and other fine art surfaces, preparing concepts from sketches or digital mockups, scaling designs for large-format artworks, and helping maintain a consistent creative direction across physical artworks, prints, and related visual materials. Key responsibilities include: Creating original illustrations and artwork on canvas using acrylics, mixed media, stencilling, textures, and other physical art techniques. Interpreting the gallery’s distinctive style, which blends fine art, pop culture, street art influences, character-based imagery, and contemporary visual storytelling. Assisting with the development of artwork concepts for exhibitions, art fairs, collector commissions, print releases, and commercial creative projects. Working from initial sketches, digital layouts, or creative briefs and translating these into high-quality physical artworks. Selecting and preparing appropriate materials, surfaces, finishes, colour palettes, and mixed media techniques. Collaborating with the Principal Artist, gallery team, and digital media team to refine artwork concepts and prepare pieces for presentation, photography, printing, and augmented reality integration. Maintaining an efficient production schedule and completing work to deadlines for exhibitions, gallery launches, and art fair commitments. Contributing to limited edition print concepts, merchandise layouts, and other visual design assets where required. Ensuring all artwork is produced to a high professional standard and aligns with the creative identity of The Space Cowboy Gallery. Working Hours This is a full-time position of 38 hours per week. Standard working hours will generally be Monday to Friday during normal gallery or studio hours, with some flexibility required during busy periods such as exhibition preparation, art fair deadlines, and major project launches.
