About Us Afghan Kebab is a well-loved, authentic Afghan restaurant with two busy locations in Melbourne (Campbellfield and Carlton). We're known for our charcoal-grilled kebabs, traditional rice dishes, slow-cooked curries, and handmade Afghan classics. We take pride in using fresh ingredients, serving generous portions, and providing a warm dining experience that keeps our customers coming back. The Role We're looking for a Chef with at least one year of experience and relevant qualifications to join our kitchen team. You'll be working across a menu that includes charcoal skewers, qormas, biryanis, palaw rice dishes, mantu dumplings, and more. What You'll Be Doing
- Preparing and cooking dishes from our full menu
- kebabs, platters, rice dishes, curries, and sides
- Operating and managing a charcoal grill
- Marinating meats (chicken, lamb, mince) with traditional spice blends
- Cooking slow dishes such as Qabuli Palaw, Lamb Qorma, Paycha, and Zerishk Palaw
- Preparing handmade items, including Afghan Mantu and Ashak dumplings
- Maintaining food quality, consistency, and presentation standards
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organised, and compliant with food safety requirements What We're Looking For
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a professional kitchen
- Afghan, Pakistani, Persian, or similar Middle Eastern cuisine is highly regarded
- Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery (Certificate III or IV) or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of traditional spice use and meat preparation
- Comfortable working on a charcoal grill
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting during peak service periods
- Reliable, punctual, and a team player
