Accounatant/ Financial Controller (Campbellfield)
Description
About the Company We are a growing waste removal business specialising in skip and hook bin services, supporting construction projects, renovations, clean-ups and commercial works across Melbourne. Under new management, we are entering an exciting growth phase and are looking for a motivated Bookkeeper who wants to build, improve and grow with the business. This is a key role within our operations and ideal for someone who enjoys ownership of their role, problem-solving and working in a quick-paced, hands-on environment. About the Role This is a hands-on accounting role with a clear pathway to Financial Controller for the right person. You'll own the day-to-day finance function while working closely with the Managing Director to lift our reporting, controls, and commercial insight across the group. It suits someone who's ready to step up — comfortable in the detail today, and ready to lead the finance function tomorrow. You'll be working across multiple related business entities within the Smart Group, including managing inter-entity transactions and transfers, so a confident understanding of multi-entity accounting is essential. What you'll be doing
- End-to-end accounting across multiple entities: AP, AR, payroll oversight, bank reconciliations, journals, month-end close
- Managing inter-entity transactions, transfers and reconciliations across the group
- Preparing monthly management accounts, P&L;, balance sheet and cash flow reporting at entity and consolidated level
- BAS, IAS, PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation and FBT compliance across entities
- Cash flow forecasting and working capital management across the group
- Budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
- Job costing and margin analysis across routes, contracts and fleet
- Liaising with external accountants, auditors and the ATO
- Reviewing and improving finance processes, controls and systems
- Supporting the CEO with commercial analysis, contract pricing and capex decisions
- Over time: working with the finance team and taking on full Financial Controller responsibilities About you
- CA or CPA qualified (or close to completion)
- 5+ years' experience in a hands-on accounting role
- Proven experience working in a business with $10M+ annual turnover — comfortable with the volume, complexity and pace that comes with it
- Demonstrated experience working across multiple related business entities, including managing inter-entity transfers and reconciliations
- Industry exposure to waste, transport, logistics, civil, trades or similar operationally complex businesses is highly regarded
- Strong technical accounting skills and confident with Australian tax and compliance obligations
- Advanced Excel; experience with MYOB, Xero or similar ERP systems
- Commercially minded — you understand the numbers behind the operation, not just the ledger
- Comfortable rolling up your sleeves in an SME environment while thinking like a Financial Controller
- Clear communicator who can translate finance for non-finance stakeholders
- High integrity, organised, and able to manage competing priorities Apply on Kit Job: kitjobau.com/job/3qr1zv
