Manager Secondary Systems & Network Design Canberra

We’re currently recruiting for a Manager – Secondary Systems & Network Design for our client who operate in the transmission & distribution industry.

This position will oversee secondary systems and network design across major HV infrastructure projects and operational assets. The role will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for protection, SCADA, automation, and telecommunications systems while supporting long-term network strategy, technical governance, and project delivery.

Responsibilities Lead and manage a team of engineers, designers, and technical specialists. Oversee the delivery of secondary systems and network design programs to budget and schedule. Provide technical leadership across protection systems, SCADA, automation, IEC 61850, and telecommunications networks. Act as the technical authority for secondary systems engineering standards and network integrity. Support major infrastructure projects including substations, embedded generation, and network automation initiatives. Work closely with internal stakeholders across asset management, planning, operations, and project delivery teams. Manage engineering consultants, contractors, and service providers. Drive continuous improvement across safety, engineering standards, productivity, and technical innovation. Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, regulatory obligations, and governance requirements.

Required Experience Significant experience within HV transmission and/or distribution infrastructure environments. Solid technical expertise across protection systems, SCADA, automation, and telecommunications networks. Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering or technical teams. Experience delivering engineering programs, asset replacement initiatives, and major infrastructure projects. Robust understanding of HV network operations, maintenance, and asset management principles. Commercial and financial management experience, including operational and capital budgets. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
