**About the Division**: The Business Grants Hub is responsible for design and management of grant programs on behalf of 10 other Commonwealth departments, managing over $7b in government’s investment in Australian businesses. We also work with our department’s policy partners to develop grant programs that meet policy objectives while taking stakeholder needs, preferences and experiences into account.
Grants play a critical role in:
- supporting growth in businesses and industries
- fostering research and innovation
- strengthening communities
- helping the environment
- providing emergency relief
We provide an end-to-end grant delivery service using a national network. To support this holistic approach our internal structure includes program delivery as well as core enabling functions. It is a dynamic division of over 350 people, all our teams are geographically dispersed with staff located all around Australia!
**About the team**: The Planning and Design team works closely with policy partners and program delivery teams within the department to develop and design grant opportunities, which deliver the Government’s agenda. The work is varied, detailed, and delivered within legislative and regulatory frameworks. The team operates across a dispersed geographic network, and maintains a positive, supportive culture which values professionalism, flexibility, and teamwork.
**Key competencies**
- Leadership and management skills, including experience in managing, mentoring and developing a geographically dispersed team to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Able to think strategically with a focus on execution and business outcomes in a public sector accountability context.
- Able to successfully build, maintain and manage collaborative relationships with diverse groups through a strong customer-focused client relationship lens.
- Demonstrated judgment and integrity to engage constructively with risk, the intellectual ability and personal resilience to positively challenge conventional ways of doing things and the ability to adapt approaches taken to meet program outcomes to a high degree.
- Able to have productive robust conversations and proactively deal with challenging situations and conflict to mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Capable of quickly adapting to agile environments and shifting circumstances, while effectively leading the team through the process.
- Growth and learning mindset and the ability to build a learning and adaptive workplace culture.
**Experience**
- Significant experience in program design, program and grants management and delivery, or transferable skills and experience.
- Significant leadership and management experience in a complex organisation, including a proven track record of establishing high performing teams.
- Experience working successfully with external stakeholders.
**What you will do**: As Manager, Planning and Design, you will work with a high level of autonomy under broad direction of the General Manager. You will lead and motivate a team and work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external parties to deliver high quality program design and liaison support services. You will:
- Implement the government’s strategic policy agenda and contribute to the development of improved policy making, program design and management, anticipating and assessing the impact of changes in government policy and contributing to appropriate responses.
- Provide high level contribution to the analysis of issues and the management, preparation, and coordination of complex inputs to policy and program design formulation.
- Promote and manage relationships and key strategic alliances with internal and external stakeholders, advocating, representing, and negotiating commensurate with the department’s strategic objectives and priorities.
