Description

This complex, multi-faceted organisation has been successfully operating in the Canberra region for over 100 years and are one of the ACT’s largest employers. The Opportunity The Manager Secondary Systems and Network Design is part of the Network Delivery Group and is the custodian of the secondary systems network, ensuring all systems, schemes and associated processes are fit for purpose and compliant with relevant standards and codes (NER, NEM etc). The role is critical to delivering programs and projects that align with network plans, aiming to improve reliability and service to customers. This includes operating with a commercial risk-based approach in a capital and resource constrained environment, and being responsible for:
- The technical design authority for Network primary and secondary assets
- Delivering an annual design program for the Network Delivery Group
- Supporting the delivery of the secondary systems asset augmentation, asset replacement and maintenance programs
- Leading a diverse team of engineers, project engineers, designers and technicians The Role Reporting to the GM of Network Delivery, this role plays a key function in providing expert technical knowledge in the areas of electrical engineering, SCADA automation systems and telecommunications networks to advise on future network direction. This includes developing strategies and plans for secondary systems, integration of distributed generation and energy storage into the electricity network. In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
- Developing and leading the implementation of the Secondary Systems and Network Design teams’ business plan in alignment with the Network Delivery business plan
- Financial management and accountability for the Secondary Systems and Network Design section operational and maintenance budget, including the development of the annual budget and quarterly forecast
- Responsible for establishing and managing contracts for the delivery of projects and maintenance activities within the portfolio.
- Developing close working relationships with asset management group to inform them on emerging trends in relation to asset performance
- Managing the portfolios emergency response and field resources in situations of declared emergency response to restore supply and re-establish the safety of network assets, in the shortest possible time
- Providing annual Regulatory Information Notice (RIN) reporting and ACT Government utilities technical regulator ULAR reporting. Ensure regulatory compliances with AEMO, the NER and ACT technical regulator The Ideal Person You are a highly experienced and accomplished electrical engineer, with a track record of success of project delivery, resource planning, and works and contract management in electricity distribution. You will have 10 + years of industry experience in leadership roles and be able to work collaboratively and lead with purpose. In addition, you will have:
- A Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or related discipline and significant years of operational experience
- Significant knowledge and experience with asset management practices including ISO 55001
- Significant demonstrated knowledge of electrical networks, network infrastructure operations and maintenance, and zone substation primary assets
- Significant demonstrated knowledge and experience with secondary systems including: design, specification, engineering, implementation and commissioning of protection and SCADA systems, and telecommunications networks, Systems Engineering standard such as IEC 61850 and cyber security risks and controls for protection and control systems
- MBA, Master in Engineering, Master in Management (desirable)
- Proven business and financial acumen, with experience managing $20M+ capital and operational programs
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing an engineering and technical workforce, within an industrially complex environment, including motivating teams and influencing others to deliver outcomes Salary / Rate
- $220k
- $232k + 16% Super + relocation assistance
