**The Role** Apprenticeship Services Policy and Reform lead policy development for Commonwealth Programs for Australian Apprentices including incentives and support services. The team is also responsible for the Australian Apprenticeship Support Loans Amendment Bill 2024 (the Bill), which will amend the Australian Apprenticeship Support Loans Act 2014.

The Bill is currently under development and will provide primary legislation for the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives System (Incentive System). The legislative amendments support administration of the Incentive System by facilitating automated payments, authority for spending, strengthened compliance and enabling data sharing arrangements between the Commonwealth and state and territory bodies.

Reporting to the Co-Directors, the Assistant Director is responsible for leading the progression of the Bill, including reviewing existing provisions and drafting instructions, developing new drafting instructions in relation to Automated Decision Making provisions, and leading further consultation with other Government agencies as well as internal and external stakeholders.

**Skills and Capabilities** We are seeking one individual with the following skills and capabilities:

- Experience developing legal drafting instructions for legislative amendments and instruments
- Experience developing the suite of documents required for Bill introduction including Explanatory memorandum, Legislation Approval Process brief, Second Reading Speech etc.
- Ability to clearly explain legal concepts, provisions and advice to a range of audiences verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work autonomously and project manage tasks through to completion, while also working collaboratively with other areas when required.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including good judgement.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work with excellent attention to detail.

**The Opportunity** This position is available to Ongoing APS employees as a temporary transfer at level and/or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of 12 months.
