Overview The Department of the Senate is seeking motivated individuals to join our Committee Office as Administrative Officers. Administrative Officers work as part of a small team, known as a Committee secretariat, to provide support to Senate committees. Senate committees conduct inquiries to examine matters in detail, gathering information from a range of sources including receiving submissions, holding hearings and conducting visits around Australia, before reporting back to the Senate. Secretariats do research, plan and support hearings, receive submissions, draft reports and provide procedural advice to committees. Administrative Officers play a key role in supporting their Committee secretariat to function effectively and smoothly. The Administrative Officer is the main point of contact for the committee secretariat and manages the collation, recording and dissemination of general information and enquiries to the committee. Administrative Officers manage their own day‐to‐day workload, considering and adapting to decisions made by the committee and the Committee Secretary. Responsibilities Provide information to senators and their staff, parliamentary officials and members of the general public regarding committee inquiries. Process submissions and other correspondence and keep registers of relevant committee information. Undertake supporting arrangements for committee meetings and hearings, including arranging venues, travel and accommodation. Prepare finalised committee reports for both online and hard copy publication and tabling (formal presentation) in the Senate. Job Details Level: APS 3 Salary range: $79,536 to $85,923 Location: Australian Parliament House, Canberra (APH) Benefits As a recent employee you will be provided with training and support to assist your transition to the department.
