Senior Certification Engineer – Electrical / Avionics Apply for the Senior Certification Engineer – Electrical / Avionics role at Civil Aviation Safety Authority. Base pay range A$150,381.00/yr
- A$187,972.00/yr The Role This is an exciting position that covers the formulation, development and maintenance of policies, safety regulations and associated guidance material in relation to all aspects of flight operations. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed research, risk assessments, collect and analyse safety data, and develop safety policies and guidelines that support policy proposals.
- Develop policy proposals related to flight operations standards and regulatory change matters.
- Develop consultation advisory documents and post‑consultation decision documents that include analysis of consultation responses.
- Prepare guidance documents that aid stakeholders in interpreting the intent of legal instruments.
- Provide technical interpretation, advice and guidance on Australian and international aviation rules and policy within areas of responsibility.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain skilled relationships with aviation stakeholders, regulatory authorities, foreign government agencies, and international representatives as necessary.
- Represent CASA in national forums when required.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to less experienced employees on standards development and other technical matters when senior. Ideal Candidate
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, analysis, problem solving, judgement and decision‑making, applying technical knowledge to routine and unusual matters.
- Self‑directed work under direct guidance from CASA and adherence to regulatory practices, operational needs and procedures.
- Stakeholder management experience, including conflict resolution on sensitive and complex issues within constrained timeframes.
- Foundational working knowledge of Australian aviation safety legislation and guidance materials.
- Operational experience in flight operations or national aviation authority management.
- Experience in leading or undertaking technical writing projects.
- Experience in people leadership and/or management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage segments of complex projects. Mandatory Requirements
- At least 8 years’ experience in fixed‑wing flight operations.
- Hold or have held an Australian Air Transport pilot licence (Aeroplane).
- Have an instrument rating with multi‑engine aeroplane endorsement.
- Hold a flight instructor rating with grade 1 training endorsement, extensive training and checking or equivalent military experience.
- In‑depth understanding of Australia’s Civil Aviation Act 1988, relevant CASRs, CARs, guidance materials and other legislation.
- Prospective employees must undergo pre‑employment screening, police record check and pre‑employment alcohol and drug test.
- Must be an Australian citizen able to obtain and maintain the required level of security clearance.
