- Full‑time, permanent role based in Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney Summary Airservices Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Specialist to play a key role in the sustainment and evolution of critical aerodrome technology systems that support Australia’s aviation network. This is an exciting opportunity to provide technical leadership on the Advanced Digital Tower System at Western Sydney International Airport (WSIA), helping ensure its safety, performance, reliability, and long‑term operational success. The Role & The Team Reporting to the Tower Technology Services Team Leader within the Chief Technology Enablement Office (CTEO), you will be responsible for the technical performance, sustainment, and continuous improvement of complex, software‑intensive aerodrome systems. You will act as the primary technical point of contact for assigned systems and provide leadership across the full engineering lifecycle—from design and integration through to testing, deployment, and operational readiness. Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and engineering expertise for digital tower and aerodrome systems
- Act as the primary point of contact for system engineering and technical matters
- Lead and contribute to engineering lifecycle activities including design, integration, testing, installation, and verification
- Support system testing, validation, operational readiness, and site deployment activities
- Manage configuration control, change management, and system documentation
- Identify, assess, and manage technical and safety risks
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, security, and quality standards (including CASA, ICAO, and Airservices requirements)
- Engage with internal stakeholders, program teams, and external vendors as a trusted technical advisor
- Contribute to continuous improvement, mentoring, and knowledge sharing across teams The Person You are a senior systems engineer with strong technical judgement and the ability to work with limited direction in complex, safety‑critical environments. You enjoy leading technically, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and taking ownership of outcomes. Essential Requirements
- Degree in Engineering or Information Technology (or equivalent)
- Extensive experience applying systems engineering practices across the full SDLC
- Strong background in the design, development, testing, and implementation of complex software systems
- Experience with configuration management, quality assurance, and technical documentation
- Proven stakeholder and vendor management experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV1 Security Clearance Highly Desirable
- Experience with Digital Tower Solutions or aerodrome‑based Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems
- Experience with real‑time or distributed systems and N‑tier architectures
- Eligibility for Professional Engineer registration (RPEQ and/or CPEng)
- Knowledge of ISM, DO‑278A, or safety‑critical aviation systems Security Clearance To be eligible to apply, you must be an Australian citizen as an Australian AGSVA security clearance is required for this role.
