Job Description Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. Downer Professional Services is Australia’s multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and Government. We currently have an opportunity for a Systems Engineer JP9101 Level 3 in Canberra, ACT to support the Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communications System (EDHFCS). What You'll Do This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:
- Facilitate complex systems engineering activities across acquisition and integration phases, ensuring EDHFCS capability requirements are achieved
- Provide engineering advice and assurance on system design, integration, verification, and validation activities across contracts
- Develop, review, and endorse engineering artefacts including system specifications, design documentation, and technical risk registers
- Identify, assess, and manage technical risks, influencing project decision-making and ensuring compliance with Defence governance frameworks
- Represent engineering interests in technical forums and mentor junior engineers, fostering capability uplift and best practice What You'll Bring
- Proven experience in systems engineering within Defence acquisition programs, with knowledge of ODCS
- Chartered Professional Engineer status (or working towards) with relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering activities and influence technical outcomes in a Defence environment
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with Defence, CASG, and industry partners
- Experience working with ASDEFCON frameworks and Defence policy, standards, and regulatory environments Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain an AGSVA Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
