The People Branch delivers human resources services and functions across the AEC. Our team of HR professionals provide services designed to support our people across functions that include, workforce strategy, recruitment, HR operations, employee relations, safety and wellbeing, learning and development, and workforce insights. We aim to work in partnership with AEC business areas to bring a strategic focus and innovative approaches, built on solid operational foundations. The Opportunity The APS 5 Human Resource Advisor works under limited supervision to provide support and advice on a range of employee relations matters, including employment conditions, policies, and case management activities. The role sits within the Employee Relations, Wellbeing and Diversity team in the People Branch and contributes to the delivery of HR services, projects and initiatives. This role will support the AEC’s upcoming enterprise bargaining process, providing exposure to a high-profile, agency-wide priority. The successful candidate will assist in preparing materials, coordinating stakeholder input, and supporting bargaining-related activities. Following completion of the bargaining process, it is intended the role will continue within the Employee Relations team, contributing to broader employee relations functions and priorities. In this role, you will:
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across the AEC
- Assist in the development of and/or management of industrial instruments and strategies (e.g. Enterprise Agreements, s24(1) Determinations)
- Assist with Code of Conduct and underperformance matters, including providing guidance and supporting reviews of actions under limited supervision
- Manage the Employee Relations ticket system & inbox, providing accurate and timely advice supported by appropriate research and evidence
- Contribute to a range of employee relations activities and projects. The position requires the appropriate handling of sensitive personal information and the provision of accurate, timely and well‑researched advice in accordance with APS legislation, Commissioner’s Directions and AEC policies and procedures. To excel you’ll have:
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity, discretion and accuracy
- Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, work to deadlines and deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships across teams and business areas
- Sound written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise and well‑structured advice and documentation
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply HR policies, procedures and employment frameworks, with an understanding of APS legislative requirements
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive and productive work workplace
- Experience or exposure to employee relations or HR functions within an APS or similar environment
- An interest in, or exposure to, enterprise bargaining or industrial relations activities
- AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
- Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
