- Based in Bella Vista, NSW We are seeking a Backend Software Developer with solid Java expertise and deep experience working with high‑performance Oracle database platforms, including Oracle Exadata, to build and maintain scalable, data‑intensive backend systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of modern application engineering and enterprise-grade database infrastructure, helping shape robust, reliable, and scalable systems for critical business applications.
The role You will play a pivotal role in modernizing and migrating Java-based applications to Oracle Exadata-powered environments. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams including DBAs, infrastructure engineers, and DevOps—to deliver seamless, high-performing application deployments.
- Support the migration of Java-based applications (Spring Boot, Tomcat) to infrastructure environments powered by Oracle Exadata.
- Review and adapt JDBC configurations, connection pools, and system properties for Oracle compatibility.
- Validate application functionality, performance, and connectivity post-migration.
- Work closely with DBAs and platform teams to troubleshoot performance, tuning, and connectivity issues.
- Automate workplace setup and deployment processes using shell scripting and configuration tools.
- Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of configurations, migration steps, rollback procedures, and validations in Confluence.
- Track activities, risks, validations, and issues using Jira to support transparent project delivery.
- Work in close partnership with Infrastructure, Security, and Application Development teams.
- Contribute to the stability and performance of business-critical applications through proactive issue identification and resolution. About you
- Ideally 5+ years of experience with Java (8+), Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs.
- Proven experience deploying Java applications using Apache Tomcat in Linux-based VM environments.
- Hands-on integration experience with Oracle databases, ideally including Exadata.
- Strong knowledge of JDBC, connection management, and SQL performance tuning.
- Proficient in implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, and Artifactory.
- Understanding of core infrastructure components: TLS, firewalls, DNS, and system services.
- Proficient in shell scripting (bash or similar) for automation and environment provisioning.
- Experience with AppDynamics for JVM and database performance monitoring.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot and optimize both application logic and underlying database behaviour to resolve end-to-end performance issues.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to contribute effectively within a dedicated modernization team. Nice to have:
- Strong analytical mindset with keen attention to detail.
- Familiarity with Puppet or similar configuration management tools.
- Ability to work independently during critical migration or validation windows.
