Junior Design Engineer – RV Manufacturing Cub Campers has been designing and building Australian-made camper trailers and hybrid caravans from our North Rocks factory since 1968. We're 100% Australian-owned, RVMAP-accredited, and proud holders of the Australian Made & Owned licence. About the role A hands‑on junior role supporting the Design Manager across drafting, programming, engineering, production coordination, and admin. You'll learn the full product lifecycle in a small, fast‑moving RV manufacturer — from concept through to factory floor. Skills & qualifications Essential
- Certificate IV / Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or Drafting
- 1–3 years experience in a design or engineering environment (or strong placement / internship experience)
- SolidWorks proficiency (modelling, assemblies, drawings)
- Strong drafting skills — able to produce clear, accurate, production‑ready drawings efficiently
- Experience with CNC programming, nesting, or CAM workflows (or robust willingness to learn)
- Ability to design and detail components — not just update existing drawings
- Basic engineering reasoning: material selection, load paths, tolerances, fitment
- Competent creating, revising, and issuing production drawings (PDF, DXF)
- Understanding of sheet metal, composites, or general fabrication processes
- Practically minded — comfortable using hand and power tools, and confident working in a workshop environment
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow established drawing standards
- Competent with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Good written and verbal communication
- Organised, self‑motivated, comfortable following up with suppliers and production Desirable
- Experience programming or operating CNC routers, laser cutters, or similar machinery
- Willingness to learn production machinery and understand how parts are made on the floor
- Ability to record and communicate feedback from production — capture issues, tolerances, and improvements back into drawings and design
- Trade background, maker experience, or demonstrated hands‑on capability (woodwork, metalwork, automotive, etc.)
- Experience in RV, caravan, marine, or automotive manufacturing
- Familiarity with ECN / revision control processes
- Exposure to BOM management or basic ERP/inventory systems
- Understanding of Australian standards (ADRs, AS/NZS)
- Proficiency in Mandarin (written and/or spoken) to support communication with overseas suppliers What you’ll be doing Drafting & programming (primary focus)
- Create, update, and revise production drawings in SolidWorks per redlines / ECNs
- Prepare and issue PDF and DXF drawing packs for production
- Support CNC programming, nesting, and file preparation for manufacturing
- Maintain drawing registers, file naming conventions, and revision control Design & engineering
- Design components, brackets, fixtures, and assemblies in SolidWorks under the direction of the Design Manager
- Contribute to design solutions within established company standards and methods
- Select appropriate materials, fasteners, and manufacturing methods with guidance
- Help solve fit and function problems with input from production
- Support prototype development, hands‑on mock‑ups, and testing Admin & coordination
- Follow up with suppliers on quotes, lead times, and technical info
- Support BOM updates and basic admin in SharePoint / ERP
- Assist with compliance documentation and variant record‑keeping
- General design team admin and project support About you
- Equally comfortable at the desk and on the factory floor
- Can pick up a drill, tape measure, or rivet gun without hesitation
- Keen to spend time with production — watch how things are built, listen to feedback, and bring that knowledge back to the drawings
- Willing to learn and apply the team's existing design methodology
- Comfortable switching between engineering tasks and admin work
- Happy to take direction — but confident enough to ask questions and flag problems
