Assistant Commissioner, Smarter Data (Queensland)

We are seeking experienced and influential data and analytics leaders for Assistant Commissioner roles in the ATO's Smarter Data business line. As a senior member of the Smarter Data executive team, you'll play an key role in contributing to the strategic direction, and evolution, of the ATO's data and analytics capability, including AI and automation, and more broadly APS. You will be working as one of a team of six assistant commissioners, each with responsibility for a particular component of the data and analytics capability. You'll personally lead a team of between 80 to 200 staff, with responsibility for delivery of data and analytics, AI and automated solutions. This also includes ensuring strong governance processes in how we manage and use data, as a key ATO asset that is held in trust for the Australian community. You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver innovative, practical and scalable solutions, as well as managing key relationships for data sharing with other government agencies. You also play an influential role in forums and activities to evolve data, analytics and AI capabilities across the APS. You will build trusted relationships and work collaboratively with your peers to deliver on organisational outcomes and meet government commitments. You'll be an influential leader in the ATO and provide strategic, thought, and people leadership in a transforming setting. You will bring a background in data and analytics, including data science and data engineering, to lead the development and implementation of key strategic and major agency initiatives or programs in a challenging and fast paced environment. We are seeking a professional who can lead and evolve our data, analytics and AI capability to improve ATO operations and the tax and superannuation systems. As an Assistant Commissioner in our Smarter Data Program, you will provide senior leadership, and shape and implement strategic approaches in one of the following areas: data science, from statistical descriptive and predictive techniques, including machine learning and deep learning models that use AI to solve business problems data engineering, technology and architecture specifically in the data and analytics context including pipelines, orchestration, and platforms (from a whole of enterprise perspective) data management including acquisition, governance, ethics, metadata, lifecycle management business analysis and relationship management, partnering with business areas to define business needs and recommend solutions that deliver value, including co-designing D&A; plans and strategies data analysis, insight derivation and visualisation delivering high quality business intelligence to solve business problems. You will also oversee the delivery of contemporary, scalable data, analytics and AI products and services that support compliance, taxpayer engagement, and operational effectiveness, ensuring they meet evolving organisational, Government and Australian community expectations.
