About Our Construction Quantum Team Regardless of whether a project needs preventive planning, ongoing risk mitigation, or dispute resolution based on past issues, Secretariat’s experts grasp all complexities that may cause delays and cost overruns. Our team of quantity surveyors, engineers, forensic accountants, project managers, architects, schedulers, and industry specialists evaluates construction works across the globe. Responsibilities We are looking for an ambitious, self‑motivated, and proactive team player to join our growing team of highly experienced quantity surveying experts, based in our Brisbane office. The ideal candidate will be a quantity surveying or cost management professional with between 5 to 10 years’ experience of working on construction and engineering projects with either a consultant, contractor, or client. Your primary duties as a Senior Associate will be to provide support to testifying Expert Witnesses, with a long‑term view of one day becoming a testifying expert in your own right.
- Supporting world‑renowned Quantum experts in dispute resolution, litigation support and expert witness evidence
- Performing advanced data research, management and analysis, and assisting in drafting expert reports
- Reviewing documentation (e.g. drawings, specifications, reports, estimates, variations, correspondence and financial data) to identify key details and metrics used to develop expert reports
- Develop a keen understanding of all relevant information pertaining to legal disputes on large projects
- Quantify cost overruns and damages (undertake measurement take‑offs and prepare estimates where applicable)
- Assisting in analysis or preparation of claims
- Actively participating in development and training of your team members
- Actively participating in client meetings and organising client‑related events
- Continuing to build Secretariat’s reputation in the construction and legal community Requirements The successful candidate is likely to possess the following or similar qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in building construction, engineering, quantity surveying or related field
- 5 to 10 years’ experience in a relevant field of quantity surveying, cost engineering, contracts management, construction management
- Strong software skills: MS Office Suite (especially Word & Excel), CostX / BIM / Buildsoft / Expert Estimation or similar
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Experience in the preparation of first‑principles construction cost estimates
- Experience in writing or contributing to Quantum Expert reports
- Familiarity with construction cost management
- Broad experience across a range of construction/engineering projects
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and comfortable with large sets of data
- Able to adapt to a dynamic consultancy environment
- Able to develop creative approaches and solutions necessary to resolve complex problems
- Able to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
