About the opportunity Based in Perth’s northern metropolitan area on a Monday to Friday roster, Altrad are seeking an experienced Lead SMP Project Engineer to support the delivery of a Major Infrastructure construction project. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a significant project while maintaining a secure Perth-based working arrangement. Forming part of the Project’s Senior Leadership Team, this opportunity supports the coordination and execution of works across multiple fronts whilst provide senior-level engineering input and help, ensuring alignment between planning and delivery activities. In addition, you will interface closely with client, workshop, and site teams, supporting effective communication and smooth progression of works through the project lifecycle. This role is well suited to someone who can operate confidently in a fast-paced SMP construction workplace and support the broader leadership team in driving overall project outcomes. Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate a team of 4 SMP Project Engineers to drive aligned project outcomes.
- Work closely with the construction manager and superintendent to develop and implement practical execution strategies across SMP scopes.
- Act as a key interface between client, workshop, and site to ensure seamless communication and delivery.
- Manage subcontractors and vendors, including scope development and performance oversight.
- Oversee planning, scheduling, and progress tracking to support timely project delivery.
- Navigate SIMOPS and complex construction environments with a strong focus on safety and efficiency.
- Support commercial outcomes through proactive problem solving and risk management.
- Promote a strong HSEQ culture across all aspects of project delivery. About you / Qualifications You thrive in leadership roles, confidently managing teams, stakeholders, and competing priorities to achieve safe and successful project outcomes. You bring with you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- Significant experience in project engineering within SMP construction, with a strong focus on piping scopes.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor high-performing teams, including senior Project Engineers.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and SIMOPS within brownfield environments.
- Experience managing subcontractors and vendors, with the ability to drive performance and outcomes.
- Demonstrated capability in developing execution strategies, planning, and coordinating complex works.
- Commercial acumen and working knowledge of construction contracts and project controls.
- Proficiency across project systems and tools, including MS Office, Excel, and planning software (e.g. P6).
