Colac Otway Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance professional to step into the role of Coordinator Financial Accounting and make a meaningful contribution to the organisation and community. - A welcoming, cooperative finance team About the role Reporting to the Manager Financial Services, this role provides the opportunity to work closely with a high-performing leadership team and contribute to the delivery of robust financial services across the organisation. You will lead and oversee a range of essential functions, ensuring Council's financial integrity and supporting effective decision-making. Key responsibilities for this role include
- Statutory Reporting
- Oversee General Taxation Activities
- Monitor Council Treasury
- Policy Development and Implementation
- Assist internal and external auditors About you You are a motivated finance professional who thrives on accuracy, integrity, and delivering outcomes that will support both Council and the community. Alongside your strong technical expertise, you are confident in building relationships across all levels of the organisation. You lead with warmth, clarity, and professionalism, ensuring your team and stakeholders feel supported and engaged. Your combination of financial acumen and people skills will enable you to influence, guide and build trust across Council. To be successful, you will need
- Demonstrated experience working in a similar finance role
- Experience in financial reporting, forecasting, and preparation of financial statements
- Knowledge of accounting standards
- Demonstrated experience in the use of financial systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to learn, problem solve and contribute to a highly collaborative environment
- Leadership experience would be highly regarded, but if you bring strong technical skills and a people-focused approach, we're open to supporting your leadership growth. Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline are essential. Previous experience in local government would be highly regarded, but it is not essential.
