About the role We are looking for a technical and hands‑on SCADA Engineer to join our team in Cooma. Reporting to the SCADA Field and integration Team Lead, you will be responsible for the operational function of SCADA/GMS and DCS systems. This is a critical role where you will balance high‑level engineering design with essential field work, ensuring the % reliability of systems that enable the safe and efficient operation of our assets. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across a fleet of 200 remote sites within the Snowy Mountains. You will act as the bridge between sophisticated data interfaces and the physical sensors in the field, managing everything from RTUs and radio systems to complex database implementations. This position is based in Cooma (the gateway to the Snowy Mountains) with a flexible hybrid arrangement (3 days in office/field, 2 days WFH when there is not urgent site work). To support 24/7 operations, you will participate in an on‑call roster (approx. 1 week per month) with the ability to respond to a site or log in remotely within an hour. Responsibilities
- Ensure SCADA systems and applications meet strict reliability standards while complying with corporate security and cyber policies.
- Troubleshoot and maintain Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), radio systems, and field instrumentation across remote mountain sites.
- Develop detailed designs, manage project budgets, and conduct lab testing for new devices and data services.
- Act as the subject‑matter expert interfacing with other teams such as GenOps (controlroom), water team, trading team, managing defects and incidents through to resolution.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis on faults and perform integration of new developments to enhance data quality and system fault tolerance. Qualifications
- A degree in Electrical, Computer Systems, or Software Engineering. 2–5 years of experience as an Engineer, or 10 years of experience for those coming from a heavy‑industry trade background.
- Proven experience with large WAN‑based SCADA systems and an understanding of the unique requirements of the electricity or water utility sectors.
- A passion for in‑the‑bush field work and the ability to troubleshoot hardware, radio communications, instruments and terminal servers.
- The ability to write clear technical specifications, business cases, and reports for senior stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to safety and the flexibility to participate in the after‑hours on‑call rotation. Benefits
