Design Draftsperson (AutoCAD) – Grain Handling & Storage …, Young

Ready to design things that actually get built? At Allied Grain Systems (AGS), you won’t be stuck behind a screen drafting the same details on repeat. This is a hands-on role right at the design-to-production interface, where your drawings go straight into fabrication and real-world grain handling projects. You’ll work closely with our production team, suppliers and sales, helping bring practical engineering solutions to life across our grain storage and handling equipment. The Role Reporting to the Design Manager (with a dotted line to Production), you’ll produce accurate, practical drawing packages and support the smooth transition from design through to manufacture.
- Your day-to-day will include:
- Producing 2D drawings in AutoCAD (essential) and 3D modelling in Autodesk Inventor (preferred).
- Preparing and transferring sheet metal profiles for plasma cutting, plus press drawings for folding operations.
- Interpreting fabrication requirements and breaking out steel sections for production.
- Liaising with steel suppliers, coordinating orders and subcontract machining where needed.
- Supporting the workshop with transparent, buildable drawings—and helping resolve technical questions.
- Assisting with basic component design and continuous improvements to existing products.
- Contributing to tender layouts and collaborating with sales on project concepts and system layouts.
- Occasional site visits / customer meetings. About You You’re practical, detail-focused, and enjoy working with people on the tools as much as people in the office. You’ll bring:
- Strong AutoCAD 2D drafting skills (essential).
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor and ideally Vault (desirable).
- A solid understanding of fabrication / sheet metal manufacturing processes.
- Confidence producing manufacturing drawings that are accurate, clear and workshop-friendly.
- Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset across design, production and sales. What We Offer
