Structural Design Engineer - Light Steel Structures (City …, City of Casey

We are excited to be working with a successful local family business that provides a wide array of steel structures designed and built to withstand the Australian climate. We are seeking an experienced Structural Design Engineer to contribute to their team on a casual basis (initially 1-2 days per week). The primary focus of this role will be design for custom and boutique light steel structures across residential and light commercial applications, and assisting with the development of new products. Key responsibilities include
- Structural analysis and design of light steel structures, including portal frames.
- New product design and development, including prototyping and refinement.
- Engineering design for custom/boutique projects.
- Design of slabs, footings, and retaining walls.
- Preparing production-ready drawings (drafting & detailing).
- Ensuring compliance with relevant Australian Standards and NCC requirements.
- Liaison with internal team members and external stakeholders as required. About You
- Essential skills and experience
- Proficient in SpaceGass and AutoCAD.
- Strong fundamentals in steel portal frame design.
- Solid working knowledge of Australian Standards.
- Comfortable working independently while contributing to a small team. Highly regarded
- Hold or be eligible for RPEV or equivalent registration.
- Experience in the shed, kit home, light commercial, or pre‑engineered building industries.
- Experience designing retaining walls and slabs.
- Robust drafting capability with attention to construction‑ready documentation. This role would be well suited to an experienced engineer who is looking to keep busy, enjoys hands‑on design work, works independently, and contributes to a small, technically driven team.
