As a Strategy & Planning Manager , you will support the execution and growth of Hanwha Energy Australia’s Energy Retail businesses (DBA “Nectr”). You will serve as the critical link between three stakeholders: Korean HQ (Hanwha Group), key international stakeholders, and the Australian retail operations team (Nectr). Your role is to ensure strategic direction flows clearly downward and operational insights flow accurately upward. This position is ideal for someone who combines strong analytical capability and energy retail industry knowledge with the ability to identify, quantify, and model business and market risks (Middle Office). You are comfortable working in a fast-moving environment at the intersection of energy, data, and corporate strategy. You will receive and assess strategic direction from HQ, critically review the underlying plans and financials, and drive execution accountability with the Australian retail team. You will prepare clear, data-driven reports for HQ and ensure the local team has everything needed to deliver. Responsibilities
- Track and analyse Australia’s Energy Retail and Distributed Energy market and policy developments (e.g., Federal, NEM, AEMO) and brief key stakeholders.
- Report on industry trends related to energy retail and distributed energy resources (DER) to support informed business decisions.
- Support the execution of active initiatives across the Energy Retail business; critically review strategic plans and financial models, then drive execution accountability with the Australian delivery team, ensuring targets are clearly understood, tracked, and delivered.
- Maintain strategic alignment and smooth communication across Korean HQ, overseas leadership, and the Australian retail team; serve as the primary point of escalation and coordination across all three entities.
- Identify and quantify business and market risk factors from a Middle Office perspective; monitor product profitability and risk exposure across the energy retail portfolio and develop models that translate risk into measurable inputs for management reporting.
- Coordinate with legal, market, and risk teams to support product development and compliance initiatives; prepare and maintain structured documentation for reporting to HQ.
- Manage project-level costs, schedules, and milestones; ensure clear visibility on progress and delivery status.
- Prepare and deliver regular and ad-hoc reports to HQ, including real-time escalation of key operational issues; ensure all reporting is data-backed, clearly structured, and accessible to cross-border stakeholders.
- Extract and analyse operational and financial data directly from databases using SQL; coordinate and consolidate outputs to support business reviews and reporting to HQ. About you
- 7+ years of experience in energy trading (gas, power, or related commodities) or equivalent experience demonstrating strong numerical and analytical ability across industries; global experience welcome
- Tertiary qualifications in Business/Economics/Finance (MBA or equivalent a plus).
- Middle Office capability: ability to identify, quantify, and model business and market risks; solid analytical skills including P&L; analysis, scenario modelling, and sensitivity analysis.
- Understanding of renewable energy retail and distributed energy products (PV/BESS, tariffs, metering/VPP) or a fast learner with adjacent experience.
- Proficient in SQL for direct database querying and data extraction; experienced with BI/analytics tools to support management reporting.
- Strong English communication skills (essential); Korean proficiency highly regarded; Japanese proficiency an advantage for effective cross-border stakeholder management.
- Proficient in Excel/PowerPoint; hands-on, detail-oriented, and execution-focused.
- (Preferred) Experience in the electricity/power sector is highly regarded. Expected behaviours
