Group Retail Operations Manager (Darwin)

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Retail Group Operations Manager to join one of Australia’s most unique and purpose-driven retail organisations based in Darwin. Reporting directly to the GM Retail, this role will oversee a network of Area Managers across NT & QLD with a strong focus on leadership development, operational performance, commercial outcomes and continuous improvement across a large multi-site retail portfolio. This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior leadership role with genuine long‑term growth potential. The previous leader in this position has recently been promoted internally into the GM Retail role. About the Role This is a high-impact leadership role where no two days look the same. You’ll work closely with Area Managers and operational teams to drive:
- Commercial performance and operational consistency
- Leadership coaching and team development
- Budgeting, forecasting and P&L; performance
- Process improvement and operational efficiencies
- Community and stakeholder engagement
- Workforce planning and succession development
- Retail standards and compliance across multiple sites The role is based in Darwin and includes regular travel to remote communities across the Northern Territory and Queensland. What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading and coaching a team of Area Managers
- Supporting operational strategy alongside the GM Retail
- Driving sales, cost control and overall store performance
- Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiencies
- Supporting large-scale retail operations across diverse locations
- Building strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
- Developing leadership capability across the retail network
- Supporting budgeting and financial planning processes
- Driving a positive and people-focused leadership culture What You’ll Bring
- Senior multi‑site retail leadership experience
- Robust supermarket, grocery or large‑format retail operations background
- Experience leading leaders across dispersed locations
- High commercial and financial acumen
- Strong budgeting, reporting and operational analysis capability
- A hands‑on and adaptable leadership style
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to balance accountability with empathy and people leadership
