We operate a busy café dining venue inside Mount Ommaney Centre, serving customers across breakfast, lunch, all-day dining, takeaway, delivery and click and collect orders. Our kitchen supports a broad café menu that includes fresh salads, grilled chicken meals, burgers, nachos, chicken parmigiana, fish and chips, calamari, sweet potato wedges and other popular café favourites. We are looking for a reliable and experienced Cook who can help us maintain the quality, consistency and speed expected by our customers. This is a hands-on cooking role within a commercial café kitchen, where presentation, food safety, timing and teamwork matter every day. About the Role The Cook will be responsible for preparing, seasoning, cooking, portioning and presenting food in accordance with our menu standards, customer requirements and workplace food safety procedures.

The role requires someone who is confident working across grills, fryers, ovens, hotplates, chilled preparation areas and plated meal assembly during busy service periods. Key Duties and Responsibilitiesi. Prepare and cook The Coffee Club menu items including Chicken Caesar Salad, Classic Chicken Parmigiana, Calamari & Chips, Pulled Beef Nachos, Mexican Chicken Salad, Chicken BLT Salad, Fish & Chips, Cheeseburger with Chips, Crispy Chicken Burger, Sweet Potato Wedges and other café dining items offered at the store.ii. Examine foodstuffs before preparation, including chicken, beef patties, fish, calamari, bacon, eggs, dairy, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, bread products, sauces, dressings and chilled ingredients to ensure freshness, quality and suitability for service.iii. Operate and regulate commercial cooking equipment including grills, fryers, ovens, hotplates, sandwich presses and refrigeration units to ensure food is cooked safely, evenly and to the required standard.iv. Prepare ingredients before service by washing, slicing, chopping, portioning, crumbing, seasoning, grilling, frying, reheating and arranging food items for efficient breakfast, lunch and all-day kitchen operations.v. Cook and season food during preparation and service, ensuring correct flavour, texture, temperature, doneness and consistency across grilled chicken, fried chicken, beef patties, battered fish, crumbed calamari, bacon, eggs and hot plated meals.vi. Assemble and plate meals neatly with the correct portions, sauces, dressings, garnishes and accompaniments, including Caesar dressing, chipotle mayo, tartare sauce, salsa, sour cream, smashed avocado, parmesan, cheese, chips and salad components.vii. Prepare fresh salad-based meals such as Chicken Caesar Salad, Mexican Chicken Salad and Chicken BLT Salad with proper care around grilled proteins, poached eggs, bacon, fresh vegetables, dressings and visual presentation.viii. Prepare hot café favourites such as Classic Chicken Parmigiana, Fish & Chips, Calamari & Chips, Pulled Beef Nachos, Cheeseburgers, Crispy Chicken Burgers and Sweet Potato Wedges in line with menu expectations and customer orders.ix. Store raw, cooked and prepared food in temperature-controlled facilities, ensuring correct covering, labelling, separation, rotation, cooling and safe handling of high-risk food items.x. Prepare food to meet reasonable dietary and customer requests, including vegetarian swaps such as haloumi, sauce adjustments, ingredient changes and allergy-aware preparation where practicable within store procedures.xi. Assist with estimating daily food requirements by monitoring menu demand, stock levels, ingredient usage, wastage, delivery orders, click and collect orders and peak trading patterns.xii. Receive, check and store deliveries, ensuring stock is inspected for quality, packaging condition, temperature, quantity and freshness before being placed into the appropriate storage area.xiii. Maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen by cleaning benches, cooking equipment, utensils, chopping boards, storage areas, preparation stations, fridges, freezers and floors throughout the shift.xiv. Work closely with the Café Manager, kitchen team and front-of-house staff to manage order flow, service timing, customer requests, menu availability and meal accuracy during busy trading periods.xv. Support junior kitchen staff and kitchen attendants where required by demonstrating correct preparation methods, safe food handling, equipment use, cleaning routines and kitchen service standards. Skills and Experience Required The successful applicant should have:i. AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV, or at least three years of relevant full-time cooking experience in a comparable commercial kitchen role.ii. Experience working in a café, restaurant, bistro, hotel, catering venue or similar food service environment.iii. Practical ability to prepare grilled items, fried items, burgers, salads, plated meals, sides and all-day café menu items.iv. Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, allergen awareness, temperature control, stock rotation and kitchen cleaning requirements.v. Ability to work under pressure during breakfast, lunch, weekend, public holiday and shopping centre peak trading periods.vi. Valuable communication skills and a cooperative approach when working with kitchen and front-of-house staff.vii. At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
