As an Experienced Carpenter or Handyman, this role plays an essential part in the Building Services team, responsible for completing all assigned modification and maintenance jobs in MWP Care client’s homes. The role requires frequent travel within the Northern Beaches and northern Sydney areas to carry out the work. A valuable understanding of carpentry including small form-work and concreting jobs,, constructing decks, pergolas, gal and stainless-steel rail jobs, and general handyman work is required. A courteous, respectful and patient manner is required with our elderly clients and MWP Care staff. The Carpenter is required to work on all assigned MWP Care jobs including small maintenance work, and larger modification projects such as decks and ramps. Convey a positive image of MWP Care to clients and the broader community. Maintain professional boundaries in all areas of staff, volunteer, client and community involvement. Reports to: Building Services Manager. Key Accountabilities:
- Carry out modifications and maintenance work in client’s homes.
- Consult with the Building Service Manager for assessment and installation of suggested modifications as per Occupational Therapist (OT) specifications.
- Follow scheduling for the week ahead as assigned by the Building Services administration team.
- Consult with clients in a patient and polite way ensuring they are respected and happy with the work being conducted.
- Use the Building Services CRM (Ascora) to record completion of key stages for each project.
- Attend staff and other meetings, and training as required. Work Health & Safety
- Ensure work health and safety standards are complied with as per MWP Care’s policy and departmental standards.
- Take all necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of self and others in the workplace.
- Report all incidents, near misses and hazards.
- Attend specific WHS training as required. Relationships Ensure effective and mutually beneficial relationships are developed and maintained through effective contribution to and communication with:
- Building Services Administration Assistants
- Clients and their families/carers
- Occupational Therapists
- Other MWP Care Staff Knowledge, Skills & Experience: Essential
- Trade certificate in Carpentry
- Excellent communication written and verbal
- Ability to work effectively, independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
- Current C class driver’s license.
- Ability to respond to people in a caring and empathetic manner.
- Bring own set of tools.
- COVID-19 vaccinated (two jabs). Desirable
- Own Vehicle or MWP vehicle can supplied TBC.
- Services NSW Contractors License for carpentry and joinery
- Experience in working in the aged care sector
- Experience in working for a community-based organisation
